As I drove into the famous City Palace area in Jaipur on an unusually crowded Sunday morning, I was taken aback by a bright red bus that was turning the heads of all, locals and tourists alike. The bus was most unique in its structure, it seemed like a fire-truck, a city-tour bus but also like a sleeper bus. Intrigued, I went ahead to explore the bus for myself, confident that I was going to be face to face with the next big concept in travelling!

Rotels: Rolling Hotels

Concept hotels and capsule hotels are the ongoing craze all over the world. These concept-stays attract enthusiastic travellers who would rather experience a town in all its authenticity than waste time in plush 5-star hotels that cocoon you in the same ambience no matter where you go. The German Das Rollende company that was spotted in Jaipur is definitely a step ahead with its Rotels as it has not just taken the concept of capsule hotels a step ahead, but has incorporated trips that don't just take you across a city, but across countries. Rotels are basically custom-made bus hotels, that have a kitchen, bathrooms and accommodate between 20-40 passengers at a time. These Rotels are especially made for long distance travels and are equipped to cross a variety of terrains, from mountains to marsh-lands. Just imagine making a bus your home for weeks, and waking up to new terrains, languages, people and sceneries every single day!

The group that I met with had been travelling for almost 4 weeks all the way from Germany, crossing Italy, Greece, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Pakistan and now, were set for a Rajasthan tour! The stories I got to hear were amazing. The group had camped in absolutely breathtaking locations each of which seemed out of a movie. From the pictures that shows the group crossing lakes, to camping in thick jungles, and roaming around the deserts of the Middle-East, it was evident that a trip on a Rotel is one that you'll never forget. What more does a traveller want than seeing sunrises and sunsets at different locations everyday? The itinerary of the group was most exciting, next up, they were to go on a road trip to Chennai and Goa, after which they would fly out back to Germany.
