The last thing you expect from a Sunday morning is getting up at five and bruising your legs with thorny bushes.

Disclaimer: never wear shorts to a forest trek.

It has just been a month in this new city of Bengaluru when the traveller in me screams out to lead me to the unknown. I was feeling as restless as I could, sitting in a hostel room, trying to complete assignments when a few of us decided to explore the forest of Turahalli. This forest trek on the outskirts of Bengaluru is the most convenient and affordable pretty little place to catch a glimpse of breathtaking sights. It mainly consists of huge rocks, steep cliffs, tall trees and wild grass. Reaching those rocks is not much of a task but the serenity of the forest is what captures hearts.

We began with a narrow path which was completely left to our disposal. We could explore whichever way we would like to; reaching the top was the final deal. We would brush off the wild bushes that crossed our way and kept walking on the unknown path.

On reaching the top we were completely mesmerized. We suddenly explored the realms of silence, all on our own. Each of us caught a favourite spot and chilled there for a few minutes. What followed were great music and a few snacks.

Now here are some guidelines for all those who are about to plan a forest trek. So here’s a complete to-do checklist for all you trekking enthusiasts.

•Safety first! - All forests are an abode to wild thorns and grasses. Carry a few band-aids and relief sprays because in case of a serious emergency you won’t find help in the woods.

• Pack light – do not pack unnecessary items and make sure you have very light weight on your back because the elevation will be a little high and it’s best to carry less to enjoy most.

•Dress up comfortably- wear jogging pants and a loose comfortable T-shirt. Try keeping your clothes as cozy as possible.

•Snack up – it’s always good to have something to munch on. Fruits and bread-butter serve the purpose and keep your stomach filled.

•Lots of water – make sure that everybody carries a water bottle of their own. It is needless to say that you will be tired.

•Playlist and speakers- create a playlist in advance so that you don’t waste time in browsing for good music over your phone. Carry Bluetooth speakers.

•Spend time with nature- do not completely indulge in eating and dancing to the extent that you forget your purpose of climbing. Make time to enjoy the view and contemplate. It always helps.

• Trash bags- you don’t want to spoil the beauty of the place with leaving wrappers and empty bottles after you’ve left. It is important to carry them back with you in trash bags and throw them later.

•Hand towels and wet wipes- individual hand towels are important to carry because you’ll be sweating and washing hands. Carry wet wipes if you have an oily skin.

•Sport shoes- this is the most obvious part of the checklist. Don’t endeavor into wearing thin soles.

•Sweatshirt/pullover- especially on this trek, it got really cold when we reached the top. Just tie a sweatshirt around your waist if it too much of a hassle to wear it in the beginning.

•Tissue papers- carry a whole bunch of tissue papers to avoid crummy hands.

•Paper plates and knife- it is useless to carry utensils so paper plates just do the job. It is important to keep a knife for cutting fruits and applying butter over breads.

•Have a great time- travel is not just for instagram pictures but also for the soul. Leave your phone in the bagpack for a while and feed your soul with great memories and elated eyes.

Hope this article was useful. Visit turahalli to experience much more than words can suffice.

Cheers!
