Sarkhej Roza (the living monument)

Tripoto

The monuments of Sarkhej Roza are part of history, our common shared history. Like the taj mahal, they do not belong one sect or a single group of people. They belong to all those who come to visit it from all over the world and fall in love in with it.

When we say the monument, it reminds us of old stones and bricks; a place that is abandoned and lonely. But Sarkhej Roza is a living monument because even today it offers respite to the people of Ahmedabad from the congestion of the city. In today’s time of chaos and rushing to meet deadlines, Sarkhej Roza offers the sweet respite of making the visitors experience that life is liveable. It gives us the feeling of inner joy that brings about peace and serenity. This is what makes Sarkhej Roza so unique, because it touches each and every person regardless of their caste, class and gender.

In today’s times of malls and multiplexes , Sarkhej Roza offers the opportunity to touch with surreal and the ordinary. The grandeur of the places provides inspirations to the dreamer in us, while wide open spaces are ideal for families to spend some peaceful time together.

We should be proud that we can boast of having a world class monument in our very own city. The issue is whether we can mobilize our resources to preserve, conserve and promote this place.

A lot has been done in the past five years to bring this place to its present condition. A lot still remains to be done.
