One day trip from ( Hyderabad to Medak

Tripoto

For all those of you wondering what to do over a weekend from Hyderabad take an impromptu road trip to Medak which is just 2 hours drive away and I can bet you won't be disappointed.

Booked self drive car for a day and after acquiring the car and stocking up lots of snacks in the car, we started our journey.

The road is well maintained ,surrounded by canopy of green trees, fresh after light rain showers, so you would love to drive or just look outside the window for all the scenic beauty which it offered.

We passed through Narsapur forest area and could see family of monkeys sitting across the road, just minding their own business.

We directly reached the Medak Cathedral ,well dressed in grey and were able to witness the sunday mass prayer. People had come with food baskets and were having small picnic party outside in the garden. The Medak diocese is the single largest diocese in Asia and the second in the world after the Vatican. The biggest attraction of the Cathedral are its stained glass windows depicting different scenes from Christ’s life.

Next we went to Medak Fort. You go up the hill to reach Haritha Resort where we parked our car. The view was amazing and one can see medak church as well. We couldn't wait to go higher up the fort as the view would be more marvellous from top. It is said that medak church was supposed to be constructed even taller but the Nawab of Hyderabad wanted the Charminar to be the tallest one in the district.(such ego problems seriously! :p)

We had a tasty lunch and fuelled up ourselves for the hike.Next we started our hike to the medak fort. We were exhausted on reaching the top but it quickly disappeared by the feel of strong cool wind blowing and the picturesque view to the city from the top.We descended the fort quickly, clicking pictures on our way.

Next we went to Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary, thanking google maps. There the guard said he will show us around and sat in the car. He took us through the trail. We need to be quiet and observant all the way. We were able to spot wild boar, spotted deer, komodo dragon, deers, antelopes and a few variety of birds. With lil chit chat with the guard we got to know this is mainly a deer breeding centre ,one can see canals been dug all the way into the sanctuary from the adjacent dam for providing proper water supply. We could also see a highly appreciable effort: a patch of land being harvested with green grass especially for the deers who can come there if they couldn't find food during dry season.

this lil fawn reminded me of jungle books bambi

Our final stop was Pocharam Dam Reservoir, for that peaceful closure of the evening with that pretty sunset and feeling the cool breeze sitting on the rocks.

The Pocharam reservoir does not have any flood gates, unlike other dams or reservoirs. This gives it a unique characteristic. All excess water overflows from the dam making it look like a wall of water. In the monsoons when the water overflows it provides a beautiful view.

More places that i could have visited (as i got to know about them later :( :( do share your experience if u visit them!)

The Nizam’s Bungalow, situated near the reservoir, was constructed in 1918. The island located in the centre of the reservoir is home to various species of birds. Boats are available near the reservoir for reaching the island.
