Passengers visiting the KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station and the newly inaugurated Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru Station (SMVB), will be in for a treat this October. South Western Railway has announced plans to set up theme-based, air-conditioned rail-coach restaurants with state-of-the-art facilities at both stations.
As per reports, with only two currently planned, these restaurants will be a welcome surprise for passengers who have been yearning for something different. From setting the mood to creating a unique dining experience, the diners are sure to whip up a storm of enthusiasm.
What's so unique?
The contract has been awarded to a renowned engineering firm and it will soon be carrying out the track laying in order to ensure safe operation. It is believed that to offer a unique dining experience, the restaurants will offer freshly cooked meals as opposed to pre-cooked food, which is normally available in lesser known stations. The chefs will be taking utmost care to prepare wholesome, traditional cuisine, consisting of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
What's in it for you?
These floor-to-ceiling restaurants will seat around 50 passengers inside and a few outside. They will operate 24x7 and serve breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. Apart from the food, the service staff has been tasked with creating a lively atmosphere with a nod to various themes.
The major idea behind such restaurants is to provide customers with a world-class dining experience while promoting tourism in the city.

The South Western Railway has already set up a rail coach restaurant with the name Boogie-Boogie at the Sri Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station in Hubballi. The names of these restaurants will be decided by the licensees after they design these coaches which will be modified to create luxurious seating and cabins. Work is expected to complete in two months, after which customers will be able to savour their culinary experience right at the stations.
