Day 1

Pre Wedding Road Trip from Bongaigaon to Gelephu Bhutan.

If you are in lower Assam then Gelephu is the must visit nearest International destination in Northeast India. It is popular among the youngsters or bikers to make a road trip via Bongaigaon Gelephu Road which takes nearly 2hours to reach the destination.

Gelephu is the most visited nearest weekend getaway in lower Assam to have a glimpse of the Happiest Country Bhutan. It is most visited for its serinity and natural beauty. Hence we chosed our most loved pre wedding trip to Bhutan to have a blissful marrige with its magical energy of Happiness and to cherish it's magnitude forever.

Count Down Begins a month to go for the Big Day ( Julie in Bodo)- Wedding, here we planned for this road trip to explore the unseen ditching the Big fat Indian engagement after a small getogether party among the family members and closest relatives after seeking their blessings.

Suited with comfortable trek Jackets and Pants both of us, so we kick started our Bullet for the journey waving of bye to Dad where my Dad whispered into ears of my fiance "Take care of her" before we flag off for the travel and hit the road.

Soon after 5mins from our house we reached Chapaguri Bongaigaon NH 31 then we started enjoying the privilege of well constructed the national highway till we reached Samthaibari from where one has to take a turn and take the Bongaigaon Gelephu Road.

Leaving the NH road behind and crossing through the beauty and serinity of several villages we discovered that the area is habited with mostly Bodo tribal people and a mix of few Bengali people in the towns.

It was September so it strated drizzling then we halted inbetween the village Hut Chai Dhaba to enjoy the aroma of Assam Chai with Hot Maggie to enjoy the beauty of monsoon. I suggest you to be prepared with your rain coats if you are traveling in rainy season.

The rain could not stop us from reaching our destination riding through the chill breeze of the dense saal trees in between the roads we were approching nearer to our destination. We came across Shantipur town and the roads after this place will test your limit as the roads are dilapidated and dusty. But I beleive nothing good comes easy and one has to cross that to enjoy the real fruit of the travel.

Riding and driving through the dusty and bumpy roads for an hour here the landscapes of village are changing with rotating chimney at the top of every hut which looked beautiful and fascinating and something new for us giving the feel of Bhutan that we are reaching nearer.

Inbetween we stopped by the Aie River to enjoy it's nature wonder creation. The river looked so fresh and the sound of the river that flows which touch our soul by its chillness. Here we played like a child near the river and picking the stones and jumping into the stream and marking the Date of our wedding in the sand with its pebbles as SAVE THE DATE 18.11.18.

Leaving behind the river, soon we arrived the Gelephu Bhutan Gate, I noticed the beautiful architecture of the gate giving the glimpse of Bhutan Culture with its multi color stating " Welcom to Gelephu".

It was already noon so we had our lunch at one of the Nepali Dhaba simple rice bhat which was finger licking delicious of the simple tribal food before crossing the Gate as there is no fun in starving and traveling. Health is important to take more upcoming and interesting tours in life.

When we approached the Gate we learnt that even the pillion rider have to wear hamlet as it's the Happiest Country so they are concern of the riders and make sure that they are safe. So we bought a halmet from the nearest shop at the Gate and the shopkeeper was happy to accept the Indian Rupee.

It is one of the friendliest International borders with India as it does not require any visa to cross the Country and happily accept the Indian Currency but advisable to exchange it if you are planning for longer days trip. It requies only one passport photo and voter ID to issue you a gate pass with certain validity as per your requirements.

Quickly we got our permit and entered into the land of serinity and blissfulness. We discovered how discipline and well developed roads are. We were allowed to ride only 40km per hour speed and should halt and respect for the on footers who crosses the roads at the crossings.

After we reached the Gelephu town we halted our Bullet and should be parked only in the linings made for the bike to keep in the stand then we decided to take a stroll of the town and explore it's beauty.

The town is developed and clean and how charming it was to see the people on their traditional attire from policeman to taxi man to common man. Exploring the Buddha temple town, touching the prayer wheels and catching the sights of colourful prayer flags in air we headed further into the serinity of the country.

As we moved deeper we were mesmerized by its charming hills and picturesque villages. The Greenery of the hills looked so fresh and green as if it is treating our tired eyes by its refreshing vibes.

We were getting late so we decided not to head further and could not make our trip till the natural hot spring water in Gelephu which is believed to treat several diseases so is popular among the tourists.

So we called it a Day to our road trip here with a promise to be back again to this heavenly place on Earth. We discovered that Paradise still do exists on earth and that is Bhutan which is so pure and untouched. The travellers says it is no less then Switzerland when you head further to Thimphu and Paro which gives you a sight to behold beautiful Apple and Orange Orchards which leave you spellbound by its magical landscapes.

Happy Bhutan! Happy Gelephu! Happy Bongaigaon!
