I had been to Trichy for a friend's wedding and had an evening to spare before catching night train back to Chennai. So I decided to visit the famous Rockfort Temple, dedicated to Lord Vinayaka. The temple is atop a hill and it takes around 20 minutes of climb to reach the top. This temple is a marvel and a visit soothes our mind and soul not only spiritually but also with some breathtaking views all through. I got a good darshan of the Lord and also spent some time at the top enjoying the scenic view of Trichy town with some cool breeze. It is always advisable to visit this temple in the evening to avoid heat. There are couple of refreshment shops selling cold drinks, munchies etc at the top. One can also spot monkeys playing around. I spent an hour overall at this temple including around 35 mins of climbing up and down. A must visit place of you happen to be touring Trichy.
P.S. - There is a famous textile shop 'Sarathas' adjacent to temple and they claim to be the largest showroom in India for textiles. Recommended for shopaholics.
