April would be Summer in many parts of Central and Southern India. Kashmir, Manali, Dehradun, Dharamshala etc would be great options. Or North-east - Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya would be ideal too.

Chennai is an hour away from Mahabalipuram. There is a bus at 7.30am and another at 9.45am. You could hire a cab or an Ola from Mahabalipuram to get back to the city which comes around to 1k. Kindly check in goibibo for cab fare.

If you're a male traveller who loves to enjoy offbeat India, I would definitely recommend you to experience Mathura, Nandgaon, Barsana, Vrindavan holi.
