Chamera lake is an artificial lake and is fed by the waters from the Chamera dam. Located at an altitude of 1700 meters, the dam serves as the source of water supply to the nearby villages in the area. The river Ravi is phenomenal in facilitating the storage of water in the dam.
Encompassed by the beautiful Deodar and Pine trees and gorgeous valleys, Chamera lake is a major tourist attraction. It is present at a height of about 760 meters from sea level. The pristine environment around the vicinity of the lake is truly amazing. The view of the lake from high above the mountains is enticing and astonishing.

The waters of the lake possess a mix of bluish and greenish tinge which makes it unique. Its beauty is magnified and enhanced by the lustrous greenery around it. The lake is spread across a huge area and as you proceed deeper into it, you can feel its enigmatic grandeur and aura.
The lake imparts different views during the summers and the winters. While in the summer, you will love the waters sparkling with the sun's rays. In winter, you will love the chilled feeling at the backdrop of the snow-covered land and water. One interesting fact is that irrespective of the seasons the temperature during the night drops quite low.

The boat ride is one of the adventurous and thrilling activities at Chamera Lake. There are options for both speed boats and motor boats. They even have special boats exclusively for couples. Well, I did not opt for speed boats, as I wanted to enjoy the beauty steadily and slowly. My wish was to feel the refreshing air around me and engulf in the magnificence of the atmosphere.
Charges including life jackets
Motor Boat: INR 400 per head for 30 minutes
Speed Boat: INR 800 per head for 10 minutes
Before hopping onto the boats, you will be provided with life jackets as per your size and fit. The concerned authorities are helpful and cooperative. It's better to get the entry into the boat at the earliest to sit at the front for a clear and unobstructed view of the lake. As the ride commences, soulful songs are played on the boat reminding you to sit and enjoy the joyful and relaxing ride.
What is the best time to visit the lake?
The best time to visit Chamera lake is between the months of March and June when the climate is pleasant and comfortable.
How to reach the lake?
Chamera lake is located at a travelling distance of 37 km from the town of Dalhousie. You can hire a cab to reach the lake premises.
Make sure to click as many photographs as possible and even record videos while boating along the lake. You can hear the chirping of the birds and an astonishing freshness in the air. Feel the soothing vibes around and twine into the beauty of nature. Chamera lake is indeed an epitome of beauty.
