When planA fails there is always planB. PlanA was a trip to tarkarli near ratnagiri since i fell terribly sick i had to switch to planB which was statue of Unity. It's situated in a place called kavedia(100kms from vadodara 2hrs)
How to reach: i took bus from mumbai 7 to 8 hrs from mumbai. Get down at central bus station vadodara take a bus to kavedia, there is a bus at 9AM. They directly drop you at statue of Unity. And there is no frequent bus service to this place. Return there is a bus at 5pm. I'm not sure about the other bus timings.
Entry fee: Entry fee 380 per person (indian) foreigner 1500 per head. It includes art gallery and museum.
About statue : 182 mts ht(twice the ht of statue of liberty) look at the tiny me in the second pic. 182 is specific which denotes the number of seats in Gujarat legislative assembly.
About patel : first prime minister and home minister of independent india. His contribution for uniting all the provinces to make union of India during indo-pak split is remarkable!
You get to see a small movie clip of 5 mins about sardar patel contribution in Indian freedom and unity. And his bday oct31 is celebrated as national unity day.
Apart from the statue they provide a AC bus service to narmada dam and valley of flowers which is located 5 to 10 km from statue.
ABOUT DON'TS: after getting entry tickets as everyone i was so excited in seeing the statue first. That was a mistake. Visit the museum and gallery first there is a long queue (realllyyyyyyy long) to get into the lift which takes you to the top of the statue. To avoid that First complete the museum and gallery then go to statue.
