Oh, what a year 2022 has been!
I still remember how annoyed I was, when the third wave of Covid hit us hard in January - but as the months passed by, we all stepped out of our comfort zones to explore this world, that was all set to embrace us with open arms.
For me, it has been an added pleasure to read about incredible adventures on which Tripoto Creators had embarked, and through their words, I too had a chance of hopping from the valleys of Himachal to the quaint trails of Arunachal, and often, beyond the borders of the country! While someone took me around the ruins of Angkor, another person filled my heart with the adventures of her grandfather.
As an editor, I had a hard time picking the best travelogues out of the long list of wonderful articles and I have to tell you, that all stories are loved equally. But these chosen travelogues made a special impact as they combined some or all of these characteristics – detailed descriptions, immaculate formatting, excellent narration, excellent information, perfect expressions, and personal insight that added a special touch to the story.
Here are the best Tripoto travelogues of 2022 shared by real travellers, listed in no particular order.
1. Meghalaya: Chase the Waterfalls, Cross the Root-Bridges and Adore the Clouds by Saheli Bera.
"Once I reached this village, the first thing I realised, calling it as a village is an absolute misnomer. It's like a town with spooky clean pitched roads, piped water, solar power functioned street lights and a number of cozy homestay all around."
2. I Visited One of The Very Few Ethical Elephant Sanctuaries in Thailand, And Here's My Experience by Kadambari Bhatte
"She came out swinging her trunk and dancing to the breeze, almost doing a catwalk towards me, whilst I was nervously holding a basket of watermelons with my tiny hands compared to hers! I had no clue what to expect from my visit to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Phuket. And then my day turned into a complete surprise!"
3. We Stayed in This ‘Bhutia Village ’ and It Felt Like Breathing New Life into Our Souls by Varsha Banerjee
"And, sipping on some hot chai, with a view of majestic Mt. Kabru on a lazy afternoon was truly a delight in itself. For a moment, we forgot all our worries and sat calmly with our legs folded on the machaan (a wooden platform)."
4. I Explored Siem Reap Beyond Angkor Wat and Here's All You Need to Know by Karishma Sheikh
"The labyrinth of green drowns you in fresh oxygen and boosts you to embark on your adventure. Also, as you walk in the jungle you feel like you are a part of the 'Temple Run' game."
5. Reasons Why You Should Go On a Group Trip Instead of Downloading a Dating App by Niyati Saxena
"I've seen a game of truth or dare lead to an actual relationship, I've seen giving a hand during a hike lead to holding hands later in life, I've seen conversations under starry skies lead to confessions of all kinds of emotions."
6. I Backpacked Solo In Nagaland And Here's Why You Should Too by Akanksha Siwach
"Living in Assam I couldn't have let go of this opportunity and so I decided to shut all those voices in my head that kept intimidating me and went on a reading marathon. Blogs of solo female travelers were reassuring and inspiring and so I document yet another tale from this often misunderstood land of Nagas that turned out supremely incredible so that just in case you too have any lingering doubts or fears like me, you know who to listen."
7. Reasons Why I Simply Love To Travel With My Husband by Sinchita Sinha
"I must confess that I love my solo travels, but there were times when I wished he was with me. Like when I first set eyes on Taj Mahal, and the first rays of the sun kissed the monument symbolizing love, all I wanted was to share the moment with him."
8. This Gorgeous Trek Trail To A Fort On The Gujarat-Maharashtra Border Will Leave You Speechless by Tanvi Shah
"The only way to reach the fort is through trekking via a narrow rocky path. From the base, it takes about 30 minutes to reach the narrow, uneven flight of 200 stairs that leads up to the fort. Hence, it takes about 2 hours to complete the trek uphill and then back to base."
9. This Picturesque Village in Dharamshala Taught Us How Getting Lost Isn’t Always As Bad by Namrata
"Stunned by the gorgeous views of the sun kissing the Himalayan peaks, we spent the afternoon just sitting and had our eyes feast upon the mesmerising views for the next few hours. With time as finite as it could be, we experienced an infinity like never before."
10. Reasons Why My Grandfather Loves to Travel by Prageet Goel
"There's so much to see in the world, so many things that we don't know and travelling is what brings it all closer to us. You even get to understand and learn about foreign ethics, rules and more to inculcate the ones you like in your life."
11. I Belong from This Village in Jammu & Kashmir and It's Paradise in Disguise by Nargis Farheena
"I'm here to tell you about this gorgeous village where I was born. Its meadows are all watched by tall pines and smiling snow peaks. The chirping of birds would soothe your soul, and the rumblings of the tree leaves would surely enchant you! The freshness in the air will make you forget about all the worldly woes."
12. 8 Life Lessons From Europe – 8 Cities I Have Visited And What They Taught Me by Sakshi Nahar Dhariwal
"Every new place I see here moves something inside me. Europe has surreal magic to it. Whether it’s the complicated ways of pronouncing French words, or the high snowcapped mountains of Switzerland, or even something as simple as the British accent, there’s art and poetry in just moving around this beautiful continent."
