Jaisalmer is a beautiful town but what I worried me the most is the way we were looked by the local men. Where ever we went, men looked at us from top to bottom. Men just keep on staring for no reason. We could feel the pervertness and it was scary.
We couldn't see local females on roads except for the nomadic tribals who puts up their shops.
Next morning we started with 'Jaisalmer Fort'. It is one of the world's largest fort. Also known as 'Sone ka quila' as it is amidst the golden sand of Thar desert. There are antique shops that are artistically decorated in the galis of palace. We visited famous Lakshmi temples and Jain temples.
Jaisalmer is a fusion of Rajputana and Islamic architecture. The wealthy landlords of the ancient times had build beautiful Havelis. The most famous among all is Patwon ki Havelis as it was the first in Jaisalmer. Other than that, Nathmal ki Havelis and Salim Ji ki Haveli are also worth spending time.
We left for desert safari in the evening. It takes 45 mins to reach Sam desert. Camel ride to sand dunes to watch sunset was interesting. The most upsetting part of the trip was the condition of kids in the area. Small children of age 6-12 years were forced to work as camel caretakers or for traditional dance as their is no school in the area. Children are forced to dance for as low as Rs 10.
We had the amazing experience of cultural evening by our resort. Queen Harish and team was extremely entertaining and engaged audience very well. We got to see the traditional dance forms. The best part of the programme was the information about various instruments used in Rajasthan folk music. The dancers performed amazingly.
We stayed in the desert spring resort, in tents for the night. The tents were clean and had all the facilities. Next day can be planned for desert safari. We chose to walk in the desert and then left for Jaipur with the golden memories of Jaisalmer.
