Paradise on earth

Tripoto

'Heaven on Earth' would be an understatement to describe the beauty of the valley of Srinagar. June 2021- I was finally able to take my daughter to soak in the lush green valley in its full glory. Untouched Chinar laden landscapes and snow capped Himalayan peaks in the background made for perfect photographs, that we shall cherish forever with love. We visited and revisited the Dal lake to watch mesmerizing sunsets as the turquoise water glistened in the sun when its rays fell on the calm lake as if lulling it to sleep. The shikara rides during the cooler nights played music in the ears as the sellers selling their wares on their shikaras came forward, making it an unforgettable experience on every Gondola shaped boat. Gluttony knew no bounds as we devoured on authentic Kashmiri cuisine. Goshtaba, Rogan Josh and Kahwa flew from our plates like never before, as they tantalised our taste buds. Shopping became a never ending expedition as we picked up dry fruits, hand embroidered shawls, paper mache products as souvenirs, leather bags, saffron and walnut wood artefacts. The Jhelum river meandered its way throught the city, adding a charm to this mesmerising beauty. The exquisite Mughal aged gardens- Shalimar Garden, Nishat Bagh and Chash-E-Shahi were home to a variety of flowers pleasing to the eyes and like perfume to the valley. We ended the trip on a high note, with a night on an intricately carved houseboat. With cool breeze, traditional music and even more delicious food to accompany us- we couldn't have asked for anyting more! As we bid adieu to the city next day, I fervently wished if I could live there forever!!
