Leh

I was hoping to get a window seat when I check-in but unluckily I could not. Boarded the flight to Leh from Delhi at 10:00am. The flight was full and took off for Leh. Just before descending onto Leh, the view of the majestic Himalayas was, as clichéd as it may sound, truly breath-taking! I could literally see glaciers and snow capped mountains everywhere! The plane took a huge U-turn around a big hill before landing onto the Leh airport runway. It was flanked by the Leh Air Force Base and I even saw two Military Aircrafts taking-off. The moment I got out of the plane cabin, a chill in the air welcomed me to Leh (at altitude of 3524m/11,562ft above sea level). Let’s see some important facts about Himalayan mountain range before we move on to the photographs of picturesque ‘Ladakh’, and then to Kashmir and Uttarakhand.

Few places in India are at once so traveller friendly and yet so enchanting and hassle-free as mountain-framed Leh. Leh is a town in the Leh district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, situated at an altitude of 3,524 metres (11,562 ft), dotted with stupas and whitewashed houses, the Old Town is dominated by a dagger of steep rocky ridge topped by an imposing Tibetan-style palaces and forts. Leh’s a place that’s all too easy to fall in love with – but take things very easy on arrival as the altitude requires a few days' acclimatisation before you can safely start enjoying the area's gamut of adventure activities. Ladakh Ladakh ("land of high passes") is a region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that currently extends from the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram range to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. Ladakh is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and culture.

The main market of Leh is a beautiful street market with many lanes and by-lanes, all of which have small shops selling a variety of products.

The Shey Palace is built up in a very beautiful way and is extended up to 3 floors. It is is placed on a hill ‘Shey’ includes a gold topped victory Stupa. The monastery has a two storied statue of Sakyamuni Buddha shaped with copper and gold.

The name Shey is translated into Ladakhi that means mirror and it is known as the reflection of the palace. It's famous for its scenic magnificence, palace and monasteries.

The shey is located at a intentional location overlooking the entire heartland of Ladakh.

Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist white-domed stupa (chorten) on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh.

The Shanti Stupa holds the relics of the Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama.
