So the perfect time for getting a close look at Flamingos , when they migrate in Winters .
Flamingos are highly social birds. Flocks numbering in the hundreds may be seen in long, curving flight formations and in wading groups along the shore.
There are all around 6 species of flamingo , the ones with are found in India also the western coastal region and a few parts of eastern coastal regions are known as Greater Flamingo and Lesser Flamingo .
Most of the Greater flocks of Flamingo's are found in Kutch region but a few flock also migrate to south of Kutch in Maharashtra in rural areas or village areas . Flamingo are found in Bhigwan Lake or Ujjani Dam backwater where they find a non disturbing environment as the lake is 10 km away from the town . Kumbhargaon is the village near this lake .

Day 1

So around 6 in the evening we finished our physics pratical and left for Swargate . So now we had to find a bus to reach Bhigwan . So till 7:30 we find no buses to Bhigwan , then we came to know that any bus going to Solapur passes by Bhigwan . So quickly we found a bus and reached Bhigwan in 3 hours . So from Bhigwan the lake is 10 to 15 km inside , so took a tam - tam to the lake . Then we set up our tents and we had a plan to try astrophotography , as it was lake side and the pollution was low . So we started setting up the gear and waited for the clouds to clear .

Day 2

So we clicked some photos at night and then slept . We woke at 6 in the morning because early morning is good for birding and you can see a lots of birds near the lake . So there are many people coming to the lake and taking the boat to deep water's where you can actually find Flamingos , but instead of that we walked along the lake and into the farms we saw Many different types of bird species.

So surprisingly as we were walking we saw a flock which had stopped near the land which is highly iimpossible due to human activities near by but the whole flock was resting  there due to the boat activity in the lake . We had a very good view of the birds and did not waste 800 bucks  for the boat ride . Flamingos are very alert birds which can be easily scared by a small sound also . With flamingos you can also find  Common Cranes, Brown Headed Gulls, Painted Storks, Grey Herons , Kingfishers .

Located just about 100 km from Pune, Bhigwan forms one of the largest water bodies of the country. Spread over nearly 18,000 square hectors, these are the backwaters of Ujani dam. Perennially waterlogged, it is the culmination of Mula-Mutha river. Recently, Bhigwan has been declared by the Ministry of Forest and Environment as a bird sanctuary.

You can visit Bhigwan around the start of winters  in November which goes on till January last week or February first week .

Sunrise and Sunset are also very magical here and you can just camp and chill around the lake .

The best way to get down here is by a car or bus from Pune or Mumbai to Solapur Road . There is  around  10 km of off riding into the  village for which you  can take a Rickshaw or any local transport .
