Popularly titled as, “Eco hot spot” filled with exotic flora, fauna, Amboli falls is an unexplored hill station of south Maharashtra located on the Sahyadri hills. Being one of the highest rainfall spot of Maharashtra, June to august is the best time to visit. As the rain flows, so do the falls, water flow appearing serene with pleasant weather, blended with lush greenery.

History says that this hill station was found by Britishers, which was enveloped thickly with jungle trees. The Amboli ghat was laid along with canopied trees. Colonel Westrop established major part of Amboli in 1880. Located on Sindhudurg district, it’s an ideal honeymoon spot too.

THINGS TO DO

1. FOR HISTORY BUFFS- 2.5kms away from main Amboli bus stop, is Madhavgad fort. This fort has gone into ruins, but the view of valleys, Arabian Sea is breathtaking.

2. PRAYER AT HIRANYA KESHI TEMPLE- This temple is built around the caves, where Hiranya Keshi river flows.

3. FOR TREKKERS- Durg dhakoba trek is one of the popular trek which gives you a full view of plateau of Pune district. This trek is full of greenery and lush forest, offering peace and tranquility.

4. SUNSET POINTS- Just 1km away from Sawantwadi is the picturesque view of sunset.

5. BREATHTAKING WATERFALLS- Located at an height of 609m this falls is mesmerising. Surrounded by greenery all over, it’s an ideal spot to have lot of fun.

6. BITE OF MALVANI- Popular for its spicy ness you could find lot of Goa and Konkani style of food. Fishes are a must to taste, while don’t forget to sip Kokom juice.

7. BEST TIME TO VISIT- Though monsoons are ideal time to visit, Amboli has pleasant weather all through the year.

8. REACHING- From Goa airport this hill station is nearby, while from Mumbai it is 555kms away. Savant wade is the nearest railway station, while via road Mumbai-Goa highway offers you the best scenic views.

9. ADVENTURE- Jetski, boat rides, trekking are some adventure that drain your energies, while nature walking and camping is like being with mother nature in Amboli.

10. STAYING- Facing the woods, jungles, hills this spot has lot of homestay and resort facilities. SGM nature care homestay is one such place which gives you the feel you are at home. Green valley resort is a place situated among nature. There is a campsite which is for silence seekers. This place is 30kms away from main city, which organises lot of activities making your stay very peaceful.

Amboli is a ravishing spot of south Maharashtra which is a weekend getaway, besides being a holiday spot filled with jaded forest, rolling hills, natural beauty, making it a must visit spot of Maharashtra also nicknamed as Queen of Maharashtra.
