For me it was a short weekend trek to Parashar lake. Getting lost in the pine forests with rivulets gushing around boulders, I hope to find myself again. No, not the previous version of me, just a tougher version of myself.

The Trip commences with questions thronging my head

With a heavy heart, the trip started with a bus ride from Delhi to Mandi. I would ask you all to prefer a State Government bus as the private counterparts either starts late or stops too many times in the journey. It will take around 8 hours to reach Mandi. There you can get jeeps where you can hop on with 100-150 INR or can book a car which will be expensive. After a swirling and rocky journey of 1 hour I reached the starting point of the trek. Being so broken from inside feels like no sleep has done me no damage.

It made me remember that travel alone does not always makes you lonely. It will make you leave that cocoon of “you & Me Forever” to reality and will force you to think on your feet. Once again it made me did whatever my heart felt. So I suggest the following – book a ticket, pick your bagpack and take that abandoned and lost road you had never been to.

And the hike begins..

This trek welcomes you with rocks and boulders which also includes jumping over gushing water. The river which is quite dry now actually fills five times of recent state and have enough flow to pick large tree trunks. After one hour of dragging your feet through rocks, we encounter the dense forest which prevails in most of the part of the trek. As we make entry, there are wet clay because of overnight snow melting with dense covering of rhodendron and pine trees. After some distance the trail enters into a oak forest. After around 1km of walk, one can spot Dhauladhar Mountains and enough clearing to get some nice clicks. I was delighted to see the orange colour autumn leaves strewn on the path. Keep a guide because there are enough trails to get lost which eventually land you in different villages. One can spot creepers and climbers hanging from the valleys and the roots protruding out from clay which makes nice footrest and helps to grip your souls.

Reaching the TOP

After 3 hours of strenuous uphill trek we reach a meadow with snowy Dhauladhar, Kap Chuli, Man Hill, Sikar Beh, Manali Peak and many more small ones. After you pass these area which also has small water enclosure you can spot two huts. Soon you will find a fenced area which is actually the enclosure of Parashar Temple and Parashar Lake.

Let it Bleed and get cleansed

Ok, now how it helped to put a band-aid on my flawed heart. I never stopped and rested. I just kept climbing. It not only provided a nice cardio but alos relieved both physically and mentally. Healing a heart takes time and so does reaching the top. So the process is just keep on climbing with your aches and suddenly you will notice that you reached. Climbing mountains helps you keep alert and mentally present always to the trees squeaking , birds chirping, snow cracking under your boots., basking to the beauty of it all.

Get your head high

Getting my head into the clouds which automatically pulls our thoughts from metaphorical negative thoughts and focus on trails. I know the questions never subside so easily but yes it is a process of clearing your thought lens. Once I noticed the trees, I admire the seed’s lifespan, getting amazed by the miracles of nature and how the valleys sprouted out of nowhere and stood their withstanding harsh nature. All these facts slowly makes your problem insignificant.

Getting back your shattered confidence

Solo Travel always gets companions and gradually communication takes a new hue. There is something about abandoned roads and forest trails that opens up your mind and removes that cluster and burden on your heart. Change your clothes, get a random tattoo, change your hair color, booze local drinks and do anything that elevates your confidence level.

Hiking secretes happy hormones

Dopamine and serotonine are such names of hormones that will drop your anxiety levels. Though the names I learnt after reaseraching through web. By just looking over the infinite mountain ranges gets you heaps of serotonine.
