Meghalaya, as the name says it's truly an abode of clouds. Meghalaya is my neighbouring state as I hail from Assam and it can serve as a perfect weekend gateway when ur short on time and budget. I was getting bored and tired of the heat so thought of gifting myself some cool time. I came across this resort named 'Kutmadan Resort' which is located in Kutmadan, Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya. As the name states in their native language' the end of the land' the location of the resort truly stands up to it's name. As most of the resorts in Cherrapunjee are almost close to each other this one is isolated , very limited cottages and beautiful location overlooking the plains of Bangladesh. We started at 12 pm from Guwahati. I drove myself, it's usually better if one starts early, cause u never know when u could get strucked in traffic. The highway from Guwahati to Meghalaya is very beautiful, well maintained and a treat for drivers and riders. Beautiful views all along the way. Stopped for few minutes at the Umiam lake, this lake never ceases to mesmerise.. cool breeze and shades of sunlight on the lake makes it very pleasing view. We reached Cherrapunjee at around 5pm in the evening. Checked in to Kutmadan resort. Cozy rooms , clean and well maintained. The view from the resort is truly amazing , makes it stand out from the rest. Federick, the host of the resort will make sure u have a comfortable stay . He is a very helpful and hard-working person.. the weather was very pleasant. Asked Federick to make us chicken chowmein which cost around Rs140 a plate, very reasonable and yummy . Took hot shower, was a bit tired from the drive. As it was already dark and a bit cold due to the howling winds, asked Federick if he could make bonfire , and he prepared everything in a few minutes.. we warmed ourselves, had a few drinks. A very pleasant evening. Just then Federick introduced me to two of his local friends, Hepz and Jade who were awesome musicians. I too carried my guitar along, we had an awesome jam session. That really added on to the fun we had.. we jammed for around 4 hours . Then we said goodnight to them as it was already too late.. had delicious khasi style cooked pork and rice for dinner and slept off the night very comfortably.
Good morning. It was indeed a good morning. The weather was clear and bright. I badly wanted to stay one more night at the resort but couldn't as I had some work at guwahati and had to return that day. We got ready , sorted the room , and went out for a walk to take some photographs and meanwhile Federick was getting ready with our breakfast which was complimentary . Had paratha and milk tea for breakfast. Hepz came in the meanwhile to bid goodbye. I cleared the bill, we shook hands and said goodbye. They also suggested us to visit Wei sawdong waterfall which was on the Dainthlen road so we decided to go there as we had to reach Guwahati only by night. At first I drove towards the seven sister falls view point, but no view as the clouds came in when we reached there. I was just hoping that it doesn't rain, as it is Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on Earth, so u never know. Took some pics and then headed back towards Wei saw dong. While coming back towards shillong just crossing the Sohra road u will find a sign board on the left of the road, showing directions to sai Mika resort and Dainthlen falls , take that diversion and then just follow the trail on the main road. There is only one main road so no chance of getting lost. Wei saw dong is roughly 10-12 kms from the main highway/diversion I think. After driving for about 20mins we first reached Dainthlen falls. Stopped our car , took some pics , it is a very huge waterfall. But rain started so we left from there towards wei saw dong which is about 7kms from Dainthlen. Finally reached weisawdong. Parked my car on the road. There is a stall where a person will give u the gate ticket which is 60 RS per person. U have to trek down to the falls which is about 20mins trek on an average pace. But man, this is the most adventurous and thrilling part of our trip. It is a short yet adventurous trek. Some stretch of the trek is very thrilling. I don't recommend taking kids along this trek. At first after 10mins of trek we reached the first view point, and then came to know that it's another 10-15mins trek to reached the bottom of the falls. We thought let's give it a try and surely when reached the bottom it was all worth it.. one of the most beautiful waterfall in Cherrapunjee I must say. Clean blue water, very isolated and quiet. I couldn't resist myself and took a dip in the water.. took some pics , and then we were back on the trek to the top. Totally exhausted I must say. Headed on our way back to Guwahati. Reached Guwahati around 5pm in the evening. Nonetheless, an amazing weekend gateway, when ur short of time choose one or two places to visit , spend some quality time. We did the same and we had a great time. And from my end, Kutmadan resort in Cherrapunjee and wei saw dong waterfalls are definitely recommended places for you wanderlusts. and people plz don't litter. Keep ur environment clean. Cheers.
