Being a history lover every time when I visited a chapter from Mughal Era Delhi mesmerised me. I always knew Delhi s not a city which can be visited in two or three days. Luckily last year I got to stay in Delhi for two months for some official work. In that two months,along with seeing monuments I got to know the heart of city. Me and my friends prepared a plan to visit complete delhi on weekends. When it comes to Delhi it is about historic monuments,spicy and delicious dishes and interesting people around the city. On the very first weekend we went to India gate and Jantar Mantar. It was very nearer to the place where we lived in Patel Nagar just 10 min by Metro.We got down at Rajiv Chowk and reached to India gate by walk exploring the vicinity around.Rajiv Chowk is very happening place with market underground.
India gate is a war memorial. It was built as memorial for an indian army soldiers who sacrificed their life in World War I. Architecture style is Triumphal whose architect was Sir Edwin Lutyens. Magnificent architecture and the places gives you patriotic feeling from heart and reading around the place makes you realize how many people has sacrificed their life around the road to make our country great.Red Fort is closed on Monday and entry fee is 10 for indians and Rs. 250 for foreigners.There is sound and light show at in evening,it is fantastic and very entertaining. We visited around 15th August so it was great patriotic feeling being in the presence of India gate
On the same day, from Indiagate we went to Jantar Mantar.
Jai Singh II in 1728 built 5 observatory around the country.Jantar mantar the name was derived from 'yanta mantar' which means 'instrument of calculations'.Jai singh was fond of astronomy and he built these observatories in Jaipur,Delhi,Varanasi ,Ujjain and said to be in Mathura.
On the next weekend we explored Jama Masjid and Humayun's Tomb along with Red Fort.Every place in delhi is easily accessible with the help of metro aur rikshaw now-a days cab are also frequent. The place Jama Mashia is mosque . When we visited it was very beautiful atmosphere and with bird chirping around the masjid it were very beautiful moments to remember. This place is at heart of old Delhi. This is India's largest mosque with the capacity of holding 25000 people. This marble and red-sandstone architecture was also built by Shah Jahan. There are three gates to get access to mosque.The fact is Jama Masjid, Connaught Place and Sansad Bhavan lies in one line and this is the beauty of architecture of delhi city.You are required to be fully covered to enter mosque and you will have to pay for camera if you are willing to carry there is no entry fee.
In between we visited Agrasen Ki Baoli. This is the same place where shoot of PK has been done. This s basically step-well which was uit in 14th century. It is a spectacular architecture and a very photogenic place. There are 103 steps. Be aware of Bats that you will find at the inside room at the end of steps.
Next place in the history time travel was Humayun's Tombstone.I once saw on discovery and they were telecasting a documentary on this place. In that they mention that this is one of the finest architecture India has and believe me it is true. It is an architecture which combines persian and mughal element.Facades are decorated with marble and red stand stone.Not only the Humayun's Tom but the Isa Khan's Tomb which you get to explore when you just enter is an finest architecture in shades of blue. Internal carving of this building are magical. Then we gave a visit to CP
Connaught Place is basically circular shopping area consisting of international chain stores and local popular bars. There are few good hotels and restaurants here plus this place gives shine to night life.
Then the next week we targeted Red Fort along with Parathe Wali Gali. Red Fort was built by Shah Jahan when he moved the capital from Agra to Delhi. Delhi has been the capital of Mughal Empire for long time and same importance has been of this Fort for whole time.It took a decade to complete. Whole construction is of red sandstone which still looks glorious and carved.Mughal has Red Fort for 200 years. It was one of the fine gems in terms of construction Mughal empire has worn. When British came and the Mughal empire fell being Bahdurshah as emperor and Mughal house arrested him along with the empire Fort also was taken by British.Red Fort is closed on Monday and entry fee is 10 for indians and Rs. 250 for foreigners. On food exploration side we tasted many dishes but the most amazing experience was with Pranthe wali gali. This gali basically,is very crowded but very tasty food. Shps are situated in very small place. But in paranthe wali gali you get to eat any type of paratha from normal aloo paratha to dry fruit paratha to rabri paratha. All of them are amazing. If you are foody give the place a run since it worths every penny.
After this we had only one place to explore and that was Akshardham Temple I do not have any picture it does not allow you to take nay picture you can not even take your mobiles inside. The have a magnificent temple. the work with marbles is fascianation. we we standing inside temple and exploring ever carve still was very memorable architecture for eyes. They have light show also. That is also great. Also the other facilities like food and shops are available inside. This must be on our list when you are visiting the Capital.
Delhi is also a food hub. If you are foody you will require days to explore food options also along with city. It is some what difficult to wander after sunset for solo traveller or women. ut every city has pros and cons which has come along with the evolution of society. If I look towards Delhi it is a beautiful with beautiful punjabi culture with tadka of mughal urdu. This is a city which has been looted and the again it was reborn with the remains of lost empires after every other century. So it holds remains of every culture which has been followed y every empire. Today it is one of the most populated cities in the world and best city to describe the world what India is about. Give this place a visit and you will know the answer why is this place the best one to represent India culturally ? Be a part of time travel and experience this lovable city.
