Sankri is located 200 km from Dehradun. It takes about 8 - 10 hours to reach Sankri. It is advised to begin journey early in the morning from Dehradun. On the day to reach summit, YHAI trekkers will not need to carry their backpacks. You will need to begin trek at 4 a.m. to reach summit by 9 a.m. It is advised to keep a small backpack to carry water bottle and other food items and camera. It will be difficult to trek with water bottle in your hand or pocket. Being a winter trek, please keep woolen gloves and socks in order to keep your body warm.

We began our journey from Vadodara with boarding train no. 12483 - Amritsar EXP to reach New Delhi. Then we boarded train no. 12005 - NANDA DEVI EXP to reach Dehradun at 5:40 a.m. next day. From Dehradun one can get private / public transport vehicle to reach Sankri. The private vehicles are much more costlier than public transport. There is not significant time saving with private vehicles as the route is through mountain range. One should keep medicine and plastic bag if one has motion sickness problem. We began our journey from Dehradun at 6 a.m. and reached Sankri at 3 p.m.
