 A Day at Shravanabelagola

Shravanabelagola is a famous temple located in Hassan, about 150 kms from Bangalore

It's best to drive up here so you save time. The roads are pretty good and it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to reach, including a breakfast stop.

Don't make the mistake of visiting during the summer as Hassan is quite warm and this visit involves a challenging climb up some 300  stairs!

If you made it to the top you'll be treated to a picturesque view of a lake below, nestled amidst a temple. Hills and greenery surround the area, making you forget your aching legs for a moment.

A few a more stairs will bring you to the temple where you will witness Jain devotees praying.

If you have it in you, you can climb more grueling stairs to visit the tall statue that this temple is known for.

The surrounding area of the temple has a few shops that cater to tourists. You can purchase straw hats, socks (which are truly essential for the climb), brass ornaments or even Tibetan jewelry!
