The morning in Andaman and Nicobar islands began with a shock, literally. The islands were hit by nine earthquakes, all within a matter of two hours. The tremors ranged from 4.7 to 5.2 magnitude and began from 5:14 am and lasted until 6:54 am. According to the Indian Meterological Department, the earthquakes had a depth of 10 km.
How bad is it?
Reports suggest that it is normal for the islands to experience 2-3 earthquakes per day. The Indian tectonic plate meets the Burmese microplate in Andaman trench, making the islands prone to earthquakes. Thankfully, no loss of life or property have been reported.
