The Nilgiris is also known as Blue Mountains because of the blue smoke haze caused by the kurunji flowers which bloom every 12 years giving the hills a bluish hue. The hills are covered with eucalyptus, pine trees and tea and coffee plantations. These hills are the range of mountains in Southern India spread over the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Situated at an altitude of 2000 ft, it is a small town with salubrious climate which sits on the Eastern Nilgiri Hills. It is a quintessential tea country as the massive tea plantations surround the hills and Coonoor's economy depends on tea trade. It is 17 km away from Ooty. The main attractions of this place are Sim's Park, Lamb's Rock, Dolphin's Nose and Law's Falls.

Ooty is yet another and the most popular hill station of the Blue Mountains. When British discovered this place, they named it the 'Queen of Hill Station'. The main attractions are Botanical Garden, Ooty Lake and Doddabetta Peak.

Thirunelly is also known as 'Thekkankasi' or the kashi of the South. Its scenic beauty has made it a major tourist attraction on the pilgrim circuit. The setting is serene that it washes away your stress. Devotees usually come here to do prayers during night. the main attraction includes the places like Thirunelly Temple, Papanashini, Panchateertha etc.

The name derives from the red hills of the area which were once present in the early stage. It is 27 km away from Ooty. Here, the lakes are abundant, the forests are magnificent and the air is pure and crisp. Eye-soothing greenery covers the mountains giving the place tranquility. The soothing atmosphere of the place is soul-enriching. The main attractions are Red Hills Lake, Parson's Valley Lake, Avalanche etc.
