एक lockdown ऐसा भी
It was our way down from the Valley of Flowers🌸, Uttarakhand in August 2019.All throughout it was a spectacular journey. On our way back to Haridwar on 19 th August‘18 we had hired a reserved cab from Joshimath to Haridwar. We would reach Haridwar within a few hours and bid adieu to the mountains. But as they say its not all over until its completely over.Somewhere in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand we experienced landslide and I had no clue that it could be so scary 😣.
6 hours 🕒 had passed and more than 100 people were stranded in the the middle of nowhere.Rocks and pebbles kept on falling but there was no sign of any rescue except for a couple of JCBs desperately trying the clear the roads. However at one point even they had to stop. Our lunch for the day was some dry fruits 🥜and biscuits 🍘.A couple of hours 🕔 later we saw a man knocking at every car and collecting their garbage. Many of us volunteered and the clean up focused on plastic waste in line. The man who took the initiative was an Ex Major of Indian Army 😊.
It was already beginning to dark and we could see no hope when around 5:45 the BRO declared that no one can cross as the landslide could not be cleared.Uncertainty hit us hard.We had already missed our train to home and had run out of supplies,we desperately needed a place to stay.We walked towards a nearby village and managed to get one room for all of us.There were 6 of us and the bed could accommodate only 3. So we took turns in sleeping. With the break of dawn we reached the landslide zone only to learn that it would take plenty of time and effort for the roads to get cleared. We decided to trek our way up through the mountains. We passed through the woods and reached Chamoli town after two hours. There after the road was easy we changed two consecutive cabs and took our midnight flight ✈️to Delhi.
That one night, the stranded state had taught me patience. That patience is the only key to keep up with difficult times. So here is my story of a night’s lockdown. #MemoryLane
