It’s the month of romance, and almost all of us have been cooped into our four walled apartments for most of the year gone by. If you are the one that romances travel and experiences, these past 11 months have been the worst. Even if you aren’t bitten by the wanderlust, you must be craving to get out of the city (if you haven’t already), head to the hills for some chilled air and a relaxed holiday. With India starting out the vaccination drive, this also gives us the much needed confidence booster.
Come February, many of us are looking at opportunities to head out and spend time with our partners, and make this Valentine’s Day and month truly memorable. And if this romantic sojourn includes cuddling by the wood fire, or enjoying a couple breakfast basking in the winter sun overlooking a lush green valley or a pristine blue lake, with birdsong providing the background score? Idyllic, isn’t it?
Naveen’s Glen, at 5000 feet above sea level in Sattal, Uttarakhand is just the place to head to, with your partner for that romantic getaway.
Naveen’s Glen isn’t just a resort. It’s an estate spread across two adjacent hills Tincheo and Arada, with the Khaan valley nestled between them in the Suriya Gaon village of Sattal. Arada overlooks the Sattal Lake, whereas Tincheo overlooks the valley and the reserve forests that surround the estate. Within the estate, you have multiple choices of accommodation. “Eagle’s Den” is a three-bedroom villa overlooking the forest and the valley. Imagine having breakfast at the lawn and clouds wafting in!
“The Woodpecker” is a two-bedroom cottage, amongst the last few on the Tincheo hill, with fabulous sunset or sunrise views over the adjoining hills and forests. “The Rosewood” is a two-bedroom cottage on Arada, built on two terraces with absolutely stunning views of Sattal Lake. “The Sunbird Cottage” is a cosy two-bedroom cottage close to the café, perfect for a family of four. Pets are welcome too.
And then there is “The Nest”, six studio rooms, ideal for couples with a sunset facing garden and the Bab’s Café adjacent to it. Speaking of the Bab’s Café In The Woods, your Valentine’s date is incomplete without a scrumptious meal cooked up with love using organic, locally produced and sourced ingredients and veggies from the kitchen garden. The café, set amidst pine trees, serves as inhouse dining for the guests, but visitors are also welcome with prior reservations.
And since we are on the topic of “Love”, it has to be mentioned that Naveen’s Glen is the result of “love at first sight” for Naveen Budhraja, an engineer and mountain lover. Way back in 1990, Naveen fell in love with the parched wasteland of Suriya Gaon, for its natural landscapes, wide open areas, lake views and the very energy of the place. And because of this love, Naveen, almost single handedly developed a wasteland into a natural green paradise by planting acres of trees and brought basic facilities like water, electricity and a motorable road to the village, without felling a single tree.
Sattal, located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, is about 300kms from Delhi NCR. Sattal, or The Seven Lakes is well known to birders and nature photography enthusiasts for the wide variety of Himalayan and migratory bird sightings. So, to further amp your romantic getaway, head to “The Studio” for some bird watching, or to Sita Tal for some kayaking, or sit by the pristine Garud Tal, in absolute silence, hold hands and feel each other’s presence in your lives.
