Experience the best of Udaipur in 2 days
To describe it, a place which is famous for its Rajputana essence is a place which happens to be in the bucket list of many tourist and travelers. Carry a wide history and culture with it, Udaipur is famous by the name ‘City of Lakes’, ‘Venice of the East’ and ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan’.
Udaipur is a city in the state of Rajasthan, with lush green surroundings of Aravalli mountains and a home for many lakes like Pichola Lake, Fatehsagar Lake, Swaroopsagar Lake, and Badi to name a few. Udaipur is not only about lakes it has every ingredient that will relish its tourists. Be it forts, palace, museum, temples, hilltop, zoo, gardens, sunset, forest, monuments, luxury hotels, shopping, culture, history, and the list is never-ending. The power of culture and heritage that the city spreads are overwhelming. We had a 2-day plan to explore Udaipur. So, we had to cover-up the maximum places we could.

How to get there?
There are lots options available Bus, Train, Rental Car, Flight. We choose to drive down to Udaipur as the route is simply WOW. It’s around 625Km which is about 10 hours journey Via Road.
Day 1
We planned our trip to Udaipur in the month of August on a weekend. And thankfully it was Raining in Rajasthan so the temperature was pretty good, though it was humid at times. Our first day started off with a good long road trip. We started quite early in the morning so that we could avoid the unnecessary traffic and reach latest by noon, and then relax and explore the city. The route was unexpectedly awesome. The picturesque view got us carried away but still, we made it to our destination as planned.
We checked in to Hotel Lakend. The Hotel was luxurious and the staff was super helpful with the rooms and introducing to us the perks of staying at their Hotel. Trip Advisor helped us with good reviews and MMT with booking such an awesome Stay on the shore of Fatehsagar Lake. They offered great services like Spa, Pool, Cycles, Free Complimentary Drinks, Udaipur Tour etc., which was no less. We freshened up, rested a little bit, had food and headed out to explore the city. The city is small and the best way to explore is by strolling through the streets. So, we parked a car at a safe place and walked down the lanes to explore the local culture.
Our first halt was Lake Pichola, with water so blue and silent. We were lucky enough to reach on time, as people usually come down to the Lake to see the Sunset. So, we witnessed a good number of people sitting around the lake enjoying the weather, munching and chit chatting. We decided to go for a boat ride to experience the beauty of the lake. And we were completely mesmerized by the beauty of the Lake and the view of City Palace. It was a 40 min ride for 350 bucks, which was a fair deal I guess.
We then sat down on the benches near the lake to see the Sunset but then there came in some couple of street sellers and a photographer who insisted us on getting clicked with the cultural Turban, we accepted his offers and the results are below.
We got some munchies and sat down peacefully to see the silent sun-down and also, we had to wait for our photographs. There was nothing much for us to that day so we headed back to the Hotel and enjoyed the evening on the shore of Fatehsagar Lake.
Day 2
It was going to be a long day for us because as per plan we were supposed to cover the entire city. We got up early, got all ready, had the breakfast buffet and left the hotel.
We had booked an Auto for an entire day for ourselves to transport to places in city so that we don’t waste time looking out for places on Map but there are also other options like Ola, Uber, if you want to try your luck on the cycle you can rent out one from REDL by Zoomcar or MYBYK. The other best option is hiring a Bike. Choose any of these options, all are affordable.
Our first destination for the day was City Palace. The palace is beautifully managed and maintained. It took our 2-3 hours to explore the beauty of the entire palace. City Palace is about 400 years old which was built by several Mewar rulers. The Palace is at the east bank of Lake Pichola. It is considered to be the largest of its type in the state of Rajasthan. Several historic monuments like Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, Jadish Temple, Monsoon Palace, and Neemach Mata Temple are all in the vicinity of the palace.
Next in was Jagdish Temple, which is just outside the royal palace. It is a large Hindu temple in the middle of Udaipur. To reach the temple one has to climb 32 marble steps. The temple is beautifully constructed with ornate carvings.
Our Third destination was Vintage and Classic Car Museum, the entry tickets were Rs 250/- per person with specific timings of 9.00 am to 9.00 pm. We also got 2 postcards along with the tickets. All the cars are well maintained and still in working condition. There is a Petrol pump and a Garage in the vicinity. All the royal cars of the King is parked in the Museum. Next, it was Saheliyon-ki Bari, which is one of the most popular tourist palaces in Udaipur. It’s majorly a garden which was a gift from Maharana Sangram Singh to his wife to relax and enjoy with her friends. Also known as ‘Garden of maids’. The garden has ample natural beauty but the fountains, museum, and marble elephants are also some few interesting things to witness. You can visit the garden only from 8.00am to 8.00pm daily at only Rs. 10 per person, as ticket fees.
Our driver dropped us next into Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, this place is a cultural institute engaging the visitors with the folk art, culture, songs and festivals of Rajasthan. We also got to perceive the live puppet show. By now we had covered almost everything in the city, the only highlight of the day was the Monsoon Palace. Our Auto-driver dropped us back to our Hotel. He charged us around 500/- for the entire day for our Udaipur city trip.
We were so drained with all the traveling since morning. We ordered the food in our room, relaxed, charged our batteries and then headed off to Sajjangarh Palace-The Monsoon Palace. The palace is towards the outer side of the city but the route is so beautiful. So, we drove to the palace.
We were speechless about the view we got to see on our way. We could practically see entire Udaipur, every lake that Udaipur has was clearly visible. It’s correctly named “The Monsoon Palace’, you can see everything clearly. The Aravali hills looked so beautiful. We then parked our car and rushed into to see the beauty that the Palace enfolds and we were completely terrified of the views. The palace is at a hilltop, overlooking the Fatehsagar lake. It offers a panoramic view of the city’s lake, palaces, and the surrounding countryside. The palace is now controlled by the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan and has recently been opened to the public. A perfect spot on for sunset. This was a call off to our Udaipur City visit.
Day 3
It was time to bid a goodbye to Udaipur early morning. We packed and headed towards our regular life. But we did drop down at Ajmer for a quick darshan to the Darga and then headed back.
