Sometimes life presents an opportunity to experience things which are out of your mundane life and makes you believe that your life is not only to pay EMI and its more than that.
Something similar came to me when i decided to take a trip to Assam with 2 of office colleagues. The whole trip shaped on its own and we went by the flow. Intially we decided that we will go Arunanchal but ILP isssues made sure that we rework on our plans.
So here we landed in Assam and our first destination was Majuli. Majuli is largest river island in world and slowly its losing itself to mighty Bramhaputra due to soil erosion. The local resident tribes are Mishing, Ahom, Koch,Chutiya etc. Its very peaceful and its known for excellent paper masks. It also gives you an opportunity to experience the might of Bramhaputra. You can reach Majuli from Jorhat. Jorhat has an airport and from there you can take a ferry to Majuli. So here we were exploring the largest river island of world.
From Majuli, we headed towards, after realising that Arunanchal wont be possible due to permit issues.
Dibrugarh is nice little town nestled amid tea gardens in Upper Assam. The unique thing you will notice in Dibrugarh is availability of so many hospitals. It seems entire north east is visiting Dibrugarh for treatment. The tea estates are amazingly beautiful. Additionally you can also choose to spend time at jagannath temple. Its newly built and replicates jagannath temple of Puri.
Sibsagar used to erstwhile capital of Ahom dynasty. When you are traveling from Dibrugarh to Sibsagar, you will cross Boghibil bridge, which in built on Bramhaputra. Its 5 km long bridge and an engineering feat in itself. This is on the line of pamban bridge, which has both rail and road route on same bridge. It plays critical role in development of overall north east.
Other places of interest in Sibsagar are the monuments built by Ahom kings such as Talatal Ghar, Rang Ghar and Shiva Dol. They are located nearby and can be covered in half day.
As the saying goes - There are no wrong turns life. The path you are walking on, you were destined to walk on same. This trip made me realise that things dont go your way always so be flexible and surrender to life.
