his I guess will go down as our favourite café in the whole of Bali. It’s a very chill café overlooking the blue ocean with the mighty Mt. Agung in the backdrop in Amed. Making a reservation here for sunset is a must. While there are few vegetarian options as compared to the non- vegetarian ones, this place is worth visiting for its laid-back vibe and unbelievable sunset views!

This is an Indian restaurant in Nusa Dua. It literally has a separate Pure Veg section. The food was great. The staff was the friendliest and the smiliest people we have come across! It has a fine dine feel and serves everything Indian, from chaat to South Indian to Punjabi to Chinese! They also serve Jain food.

10. WARUNG THE SORRENT

Warungs may sound very local, but this is a wonderful find in Nusa Penida for vegetarian food. It was flooded with people and they had quite some options for vegetarians. However, since it is so crowded and difficult to manage, make sure you have been rightly served veg food before eating it as we heard a lady complain about meat in her veg order. The only negative here would be the many houseflies on the tables.

11. GREEN KUBBU

This is Day club in Penida, where you should definitely reach before sunset. Make sure to make a reservation, as it gets full. They also have a pool where you can chill while looking at Mt. Agung on the opposite side. There are a number of pool beds available at cover charge which we did not go for as there aren’t many veg options available here. But the vegetarian pizza was great! Visiting this café is worth for the vibe and beautiful view!

12. THE VEGAN SOUL KITCHEN

This is one of the most famous vegan cafes on the Nusa Penida Island. It’s tucked in the forest and can be accessed by a narrow rough road. It has some great options and lush greens to look at. Visiting this café for lunch is a good option. We tried the burger and sandwich and both were great! They have a lot of options for shakes and smoothies also!

13. SECRET PENIDA

This fine dine restaurant in Nusa Dua is wonderful for a quiet meal. Surrounded by a pool, the outdoor seating area appears to be floating. It has an indoor and outdoor seating. The vegetarian Nasi Goreng was delicious!

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

1. There may be fewer veg items on the menu compared to non veg ones.

2. You will have to mention NO EGG for everything. And also make sure that the noodles and pasta don't have egg, as most of them did.

3. The people are mostly kind enough to take special requests for customised veg food.

4. Make sure you know the number of veg items available, before making a reservation with cover charge, or you may not be able to redeem it whole because of lack of options.

5. Most of the ice creams (and thus milkshakes made from ice-cream) had egg. So do double check with the staff.

6. Jain food is available almost in all Indian restaurants in Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud.

7. Plenty of vegan restaurants are also available in the main stream locations.

So, while finding vegetarian food on an island may seem daunting at first, with Veganism becoming a concept worldwide, Bali has also adapted to it. About 5 years back it felt much harder to get Vegetarian food, but now, people across the island understand it and also help you with it!

Don’t let being a Vegetarian delay this amazing trip to this tropical paradise known as Bali!
