When I survived without money in Amritsar

Tripoto

During my collage internship in Chandigarh, me and my two more friends decided to visit Amritsar on a weekend and we started in afternoon from Chandigarh, In those days there were no hotel booking websites and we were nineteen-twenty year old college students on a budget. So we reached around 9 pm and asked people to guide us to any Gurudwara run stay. But to our horror no hotel or saraay (trust run non-profit place for stay) was ready to keep teenager girls although I had enough money and I was ready to pay. Ultimately I end up staying at the golden temple campus. I ate food at golden temple and slept on the bank of Sarovar but to be true It was beautiful. I went inside the main gurudwara at 2 am in night it was all empty then and spectacular.

people can Stay at golden temple campus for free. they provide free food, free clean toilets and bathrooms, I am not sure but probably you can get cot and blanket at very nominal cost or free, and lockers at very less price. Its a big campus surrounded by lot of gurudwara run stays which are extremely cheap.

We went for darshan at 2 am in night when it was all empty. That day is one of the most memorable day of my life. Next day I visited Jallianwala bagh which is at a walking distance from Golden Campus.

And the funny thing is that till this point we didn't spent a single rupee. Later in evening we visited Wagah border for which we paid very nominal amount to the shared auto and next was same spending night at Sarovar and enjoy free food.
