Under the foot of the Dhauladhar ranges and at a height of 2,828 m , Triund is a small hill station in the Kangra district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India . It is moderately difficult trek and can be completed in maximum 4 hours with enough breaks.
Triund trek is famous for its sunrise and sunset view but even during day it has a nice view of Kangra Valley.
How To Reach:
For Traveller coming from different cities, there are direct Volvo buses from major cities to DharamShala and a direct flight from Delhi to Dharamshala.
From Dharamshala Airport/Bus stand, prefer booking a hotel in McLeod Ganj.
The trek start from Dharamkot which is 3-4 Km from McLeod Ganj Market. There are regular taxi's which can take the traveller to the start point of the trek.
Keep in mind that there is police barricading at the start point where traveller are required to submit their identity proof. Also, it is allowed only upto 11 AM to start the trekking , post that police personnel usually doesn't allow anyone to pass the barricade.
Few Things to note before you plan:
1. This trek is approximately 9 KM uphill and is doable by any individual with average & above fitness.
2. Pack Smart : Carry food and water for the day as the shops are limited on the way and everything is at-least 2X to 4X costly than MRP. The first shop is after the first 4 KM and the others at the very top of the hill.
3. Don't be intoxicated. Trekking pushes your physical abilities and there is a reward at the end of it. So avoid cigarettes and alcohol at-least during the trek.
4. Carry a walking stick. You can rent a walking stick from the nearby shops to the very beginning of the trek.
5. Prefer Day to Day Trip. This trek can be completed in a single day if you start early. Although there are some arrangement at the top, but water availability is still a major issue there and food is 4X costly in the shops.
