We can't resist the call of open road. Give us a open highway, may be muddy path or jam road, we don't really care where we are going. We really don't need a why either. I am always fond of travelling and road trips gives me real goosebumps.
Me and My friend Shrey went on a road trip from Delhi (Capital of India) to Ranchi (Jharkhand) covering different 8 cities Delhi--Noida--Agra--Kanpur--Allahabad--Varanasi--Mughalsarai--Hazaribagh--Ramgarh--Ranchi, venturing into different places, and most importantly driving all through the streets and roads. No timetables, No schedules, No nothing we just started and covered 1500Kms in 2 days on Mahindra KUV 100- The Young SUV.
Not all trips make good stories but i am sure mine will inspire other travellers and readers.
Our Journey is all about 2 best friends who loves roads and trips and we started on 16th December 10.30 am with Mahindra KUV 100 and Nikon 5200D.
We crossed Greater Noida and our first pit stop was after 100 kms and that too at Yamuna Expressway. It is said this expressway is 165 kms long connecting Agra and Greater Noida. It was chilling weather outside as it was mid of december and Delhi is known for its winter.
At around 1.30 Pm we reached The Taj mahal one of the best monuments and one of the wonders. It was my dream to see this place since childhood and finally could see it at the age of 27 years. Unfortunately it was friday and The gate remains closed on fridays. However, we could see it from back side and tried to capture it as a whole in my Nikon 5200D.
After this historic visit , we went to have something in lunch as we were already hungry. But to our surprise every nearby hotels dint accept cards and we were running sort of cash due to demonetization. However we had veg thali in lunch at Taj mahal hotel and paid 600 rs for two plates.
At around 3 pm we started from Agra but somehow GPS made us lost our track and we took Agra-Lucknow highway. This was highway which dint even started for travelling and it was under construction. There were no vehicles on this highway except ours. After driving for half an hr we thought we should go back as we were running sort of fuel and there were very little chance of getting a petrol pump on that highway.
There were muds on under construction road and it was full of dust. The roads were not visible. Somehow we came out of this and felt as if we came out from a mud race.
At around 4.30 pm we came on track and got the petrol pump. It was Grand Trunk road which connects directly to Kolkata. We continued our journey with same level of excitement and thrill. The best thing was that we both were non smokers and we continued driving without much stoppage. At around 7.30 pm we stopped for a tea break @ J.P dhaba. Clicked some beautiful pictures here.
At around 8.30 pm we reached Kanpur. We were really hungry and were looking for full plate dinner. We stopped at Shiva hotel in kanpur for dinner. The hotel was amazing and food was great in taste. At first we thought we will stay in kanpur as it was already night and were bit tired but shrey's plan was to reach Allahabad and stay there. So we started from Kanpur with no more stops and reached Allahabad @ 12.30 am.
We managed to get a hotel in Allahabad and hotel was "Blessings Hotel" and it was really a blessing for us. At this time in night it was not easy to search for hotel at some unknown place. The staff was good and we checked in at 1 am. Within just 10 mins we fell asleep due to long 900 kms journey in one day.
We started from Allahabad at 8am in the morning. This was the second day of the trip (17th dec) and our plan was to reach to ranchi by night. After driving for 2 hrs we stopped and had heavy breakfast. by the way we had few chips, juices in our car to energise us.We had a nice time over cups of chai (tea) on the roadside where we chatted with good-hearted people. The warmth of hospitality is still left with me. The pleasure of having Maggi was awesome at road side. The same is true about the taste of food at the roadside dhabas.
So we started from Allahabad and reached varanasi at 11.30 am. Suddenly shrey said that his grandfathers home was here in mohania Varanasi. We thought to visit them. Somehow we contacted them and went to the village. It was amazing experience as shrey described all the places where he used to spend during his childhood. It was like he was narrating his childhood and i was listening to all his experiences.
We had a great time in mohania and had our lunch there. we met almost every family member of shrey and took blessings from them. At around 3.15 pm on 17th dec we started from varanasi and crossed mughalsarai at around 5 pm. we stopped for tea and had a great chitchat. Road trips are best to discover yourself and this is what we were discussing at this stop.
yes the board which said that ranchi was just 85 kms away from here. It was fun filling we crossed almost 1400 kms and we were still keeping the same level of thrill and excitement. We crossed Hazaribagh at 8 pm and now the last destination was ranchi from here.
At around 8 pm we left from hazaribagh and it was just 2 hrs distance from here to ranchi. The music was on and we continued. After the eventful 1400 kms ride we reached ranchi at 10 pm. This was the end of our historic journey. Just to mention that roads were good and pretty drivable. We enjoyed the whole trip with just 2 friends together.
The very next day we roamed around the city ranchi and visited the places like Rock garden, doronada, shyamli and firaylal.
The next day we went to a service station for KUV 100 and this was how they treated him.:D
This was the journey which i always will cherish and thus we ended 2016. After this we never stopped and went to mcleodganj again in january 2017. I will surely share the story about Mcleodganj. Happy tripping and happy travelling.
Be the traveler not the tourist. keep exploring yourself.
