In Midst of all hustle and bustle in our life to escape the daily 9 to 5 routine we planned a sudden trip to Udupi. Our plan was to visit and explore few less popular and less crowded beaches to bring the peace back in our life! And Udupi being famous for serving tastiest authentic kannada cuisine it added the cherry on the top!
We got our over night bus ticket and reached Udupi early in the morning. Being a peak season and a sudden plan all the resorts and hotels near to Malpe beach were fully booked so we had to take hotel that was in Udupi center and a walking distance from the very famous Krishna Math. Once checked in the first thing we did was to hire scooty ( the best and affordable way to explore Udupi )
First destination was Malpe beach, the vast never ending beach with very less crowd will surely win your heart. Once the sun sets the beach becomes a happy poppy place filled with numerous food joints, shacks and lights. This beach is quite clean and good for a long walk! In the afternoon to enjoy the beautiful sunset do visit Malpe sea walk.
During the day time there are multiple ferries leaving the malpe beach and taking people to the nearby lovely island known as St. Mary's Island. 300 rs per person which includes up and down ferry ride and 200 rs extra if you are carrying a camera. You'll get the ticket from the Malpe beach itself.
Our tips :
i. There is only one scooty rental RR Brothers which is quite reasonable and plenty bike/scooty to provide.r
ii. Do not try to swim in St. mary's island shore as it could be quite dangerous because of the basalt rocks.
iii. Do not carry any plastic inside the island, if it is required to be carried make sure not to litter here and there.
iii. If you wish you can arrange a whole day trip to the sea from Malpe beach to watch the lovely dolphins( Which is obviously not a quite regular beauty to witness ). For this it is recommended to bargain properly with the ferry owners.
iv. If you know 2 wheeler driving it is best advised to hire a scooty and ditch auto as that gonna loot you like anything if you want to explore the far away places.
Our 2nd half of the day was planned for Kapu beach and witness the beauty of the lighthouse. A long stretched shore along with a lighthouse always seems dreamy to me. Once the sun started to set we set our journey riding on our scooty to Kapu beach which took us around 30-40 min to reach. Upon entering the beach suddenly i felt like i have entered a trans zone. The acute silence and the rhythmic sound of the waves took me instantly somewhere else for a while! One can't miss the thing there, is to enjoy the panoramic view of the coastal area from the top of the lighthouse.
Our tips :
i. The lighthouse remains open from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. To climb up and enjoy the view do plan accordingly.
On our 2nd day the first thing we planned after breakfast was to visit the very famous Krishna Matha in Udupi. There are two ways to do the darshan. One you can get 100 rs ticket and do a quick darshan another is you can wait in the long queue( depending on the crowd ) and do the darshan. You can have prasadam there in math that is being served at 12 pm everyday.
After lunch we decided to have a long drive along the coastal side and drive till the land ends. So we set our journey for the famous and filled with different shaped colorful unique shells' beach, Delta beach. after a long drive for 40 min we reached the Hoode beach( got it from google map ) the starting point of Delta beach.
From here you can have your long quiet beach walk or start driving by the beach road which will take you through a local village. On the left you'd witness the restlessness of the sea and the calmness of backwater and the lines of the coconut trees will be there welcoming you.
The last day of our trip. The day when we decided to get up very early in the morning to ditch the scorching sun and witness the sunrise by the sea beach. Today's plan was another drive along the coastal road that starts from Mattu beach and end in Padukere, famous for fishing!
Apart from Padukere beach there is no beach as such where you can sit or take a dive in. Driving along the whole roadway is somewhat an experience that one can't describe in words. And as it was early in the morning there were very less people and cars on the road and we could use the whole picturesque landscape to take as many photos we wanted. This roadway was a bit broader than the one we had on day we visited the delta beach end, but this also has the same kind of beauty to witness the beautiful combination of calm backwater and disquiet shore.
In the evening we boarded our bus from Udupi Central and came back to our daily life again!
