Today, you leave your home for Kochi, from where you drive to Athirapally, the home of the famed falls. You can take a direct flight to Kochi International Airport which is well-connected to all the major cities of the country. In case you’re nearby, you can also take a train or drive down! Athirapally is situated in Thissur District, which is at a distance of 66 km from Kochi, a journey that takes roughly two hours to complete. This makes for a great day-trip, however, you can also stay overnight.

Take a drive through Aluva – Angamaly route that will take you along the beautiful Shaloyar Rainforest. Once you reach the falls, a short trek on a cobbled path will take you to the top of the falls. This short walk will give you a glimpse of the falls from far away, and you'll realise the sheer magnanimity of its plunge. You will witness the turbulent Chalakudy River cascading into the thunderous Athirapally Falls, creating quite the upheaval at its bottom!

Standing at the bottom of the falls, surrounded by mist, you'll feel as if you're in an alien-invasion film!

From here, you can follow a rocky and slippery path that will take you to the foot of the falls. This track is about two km long, so be prepared for a tiny adventure. Once you behold the falls from this angle, you will realise how massive they really are. Enjoy the water spraying and drenching you silly! Don't forget to sit back and simply enjoy the gifts of nature.

You can then choose to check in at one of the hotels and resorts nearby, or return to Kochi by evening.

The entrance fee is only Rs 15 per person.

Opening hours:

The falls are open from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm everyday.

When to go:

The falls are open all throughout the year and thus, can be visited any time you're in Kerala. However, the waterfall is most voluminous during monsoon, so the ideal time is to visit between August - January.

If you want to experience the waterfalls in their full glory and truly immerse yourself in the surroundings, then Rainforest Resort Athirapally Falls is the ideal option for you. It is a gorgeous property that is located at the foot of the falls! The rooms are priced Rs 5,000 onward.
