Rafting In The Valley Of Gods

Tripoto

“The only thing I own in this world is my travelling memories…That urge to push myself out from my comfort zone allows me to create some breath taking experiences and memories, that makes me conscious and tell me Adventure is out there.”

Being a traveller, I have my routine tryst with adventure almost every day. Adventure is not just doing zip line, bungee jumping, sky diving, paragliding, etc. Though, I do believe that one should try these adventure activities at least once to test the physical strength and the mental ability to perform it. To know their own comfort zones their own limits and how hard can they go for the thing they want. Going to unexplored places, meeting strangers, landing up at an unknown place at a strange hour or even trying an absolutely bizarre cuisine can also be adventurous. Meeting new people, walk in the forests, going for trekking and expeditions all are these things are adventurous in themselves. Travelling itself is a great love affair with adventure.

But what took my adrenal rush to another level was when I did River rafting in Kullu in Parvati River and Beas River. It was during the Kheerganga trek after returning for Kheerganga It was a sudden plan of bunch of traveler with whom I was travelling, a month long road trip across the Nothern India after returning from our trek; I landed in a place called Kullu in Himachal. Kullu town, which sits on the banks of the Beas River in the central part of the valley. Another important valley in the district is the Lug valley where the main forest contractors have been extracting timber from the forests for the last 150 years and continue to do so today. And to my surprise, this place is also known as the Valley of the Gods. When it comes to adventure activities like river rafting, there is only one place that comes to my mind, which is, Rishikesh or Tehri in Uttarakhand. I was completely unaware of Kullu as an adventure destination in Himachal. Trips generally start at Pirdi and continue 14 km down to Jhiri.

We reached at the starting point around 11 AM. The torching sun was there but after some time clouds started playing there game of shadows and light in the sky. It was around 11:30 when we all were ready for doing it I was asking to myself “Am I really ready for it?” and at that very moment someone asked what is the grade of Rapids and the instructor replied from 1 to 6. I was numb somehow I managed myself and moved out of my comfort zone. Then it started like a love story when u fall for someone you fall for him/her slowly and then all at once same thing happened with me first of all rapids were small and I asked, what will that do to me after sometime when another rapid came I literally said, “God, I take my words back”. But this thing gave me that adrenaline rush which I cannot forget in my life time. At a particular point river was calm there were no rapids, that feeling was beautiful I was surrounded by mountains there was no noise except the chirruping of birds and the rhythmic flows of river. After sometime we reached at the end point but me and my fellow travelers were deciding do to it again but because of lack of time we had to abort our plan.

“I was fully drenched. The cold breeze just passed through my body, leaving me speechless about God’s creation. While rowing our boat, shouting and screaming with excitement, jumping into the freezing water of river, competing with other boats, somehow I felt that I discovered something new about myself. As if I had conquered my fear, I now know how to come out of my comfort zone and what can be the results of it…”
