Growing up in Mumbai, Irani cafes have been a huge part of my childhood till date.
However, beyond my own city, if there is one place that lives up to the tradition of serving the best of this cuisine is the neighbouring city of Pune.
These family owned cafes which started way back in the 18th and 19th century are a huge part of the city’s history.
With the arrival of Persian immigrants, came these high-ceilinged cafes which served some of the best food options that you can imagine.
Even though, several economic and personal reasons are making these close down in the city, these are some of the best Irani cafes that you should visit soon.
Café Yezdan
One of the oldest cafes in the city, this may not give you the feel of an Irani café as soon as you enter, however the aroma of brun-maska all around you is sure to make you crave for more.
With their brun-maska getting sold out in the first 2-3 hours, this is definitely a place that you should visit for an early morning breakfast.

Café Goodluck
Established in 1935, this is an iconic landmark for people in the city. It’s location near FC road makes it a popular choice with the youngsters. However, it is equally loved by the rest of the crowd for it’s traditional décor and most importantly it’s finger licking delicacies.

Vohuman Café
It is one of the most popular cafes in the city. With huge queues any time of the day, people are still more than willing to wait for the amazing food that this place is known for. Taking ahead the business started by their forefathers, the younger generation of this family owned café has been expanding with the ever-increasing popularity in 4 outlets in the city till date. The Chicken Keema here is one of the most popular dishes here and will have you going back for more!
