Today, 30th March 1949 was when Rajasthan came into existence and hence is celebrated as Rajasthan Day all over the state.
A grand celebration is planned for the day at one of the very prominent locations of the capital city, Jaipur, The Albert Hall Museum.
As the state turns 73 today, to mark this day, here I am sharing some must visit places from the state to plan your next trip to this royal paradise.
January, the coldest month and the best time to visit the state, was when I took a 15 day long tour to Rajasthan covering all the 4 major tourist attractions of the state - Jaipur, Ranthambore, Udaipur, Jaisalmer. Had planned to visit Jodhpur as well, however unfortunately we reached Jodhpur on a Sunday when there was weekend lockdown in the state.
Major Tourist Attractions
1. Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
A palace which was actually made for the Queens to enjoy all the festivals,as they were not allowed to come out due to the pardah system.
2. Albert Hall Museum, Jaipur
Also known as the Government Museum, this place is considered as the oldest museum of the state and also functions as the state museum.
3. City Palace, Udaipur
A place to witness the royalty of the state in it's purest forms. The largest palace of the state and the 2nd largest of the country, 1st being the Mysore Palace.
A major part of the movie Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani was shot in the palace and many more locations of Udaipur.
4. City Palace, Jaipur
Another Major attraction of The Pink City. Like the city palace of Udaipur, this palace also serves as an attractive location for movie shoots.
It is said that every Janmashtami ( Lord Krishna's Birthday) the Royal Family still celebrates in the Blue Room also known as the Chavvi Niwas.
5. Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
Enjoy a 4hr Tiger Reserve Safari in one of the major attractions of Rajasthan. A 3hr drive from the capital city, this place is one of the best locations to watch the majestic predators in it's natural habitat.
6. Sam Sand Dunes
Want to experience the grandeur on of the largest deserts in the world, The Thar Desert, then you should definitely keep Sam Sand dunes in your itinerary.
45kms away from the main city of Jaisalmer, this place hosts a number of tent hotels where you can stay overnight, enjoy the activities of the desert, do star gazing and lot more.
7. Longewala Post and the Border
It was the Rajasthan border from where the 1971 war actually started, which is truly depicted in the movie Border. The Longewala border serves the purpose to show it's citizens how it tackled and won over thousands of soldiers from the Pakistan's side with just 120 soldiers from our side.
After visiting the Longewala Post, we can drive to the border which is 30kms away from the post and which requires us to take the permission from a place known as Tanot Mata Mandir (20kms from Longewala post), which was the first target of the Pakistani Army during the war.
These were my picks from the royal state. Do let me know in the comments if I have missed any other major touristy spot from the state.
