Train to New Jalpaigudi: We embarked on the journey to discover this hidden gem from Kolkata to New Jalpaigudi station.
NJP to Dzongu: This was a hell lot of a journey. But the quest for discovering new places was too high to keep calm. First we took a share cab from Siliguri to Singtam which is a 3hour journey. Next destination was Mangan from Singtam. And finally our quest was fulfilled to Dzongu as we hopped on cab from Mangan in the evening. It might sound very stressful. But when you are traveling solo or budget friendly, these routes are quite helpful.
Finally Dzongu: Dzongu is a village in North Sikkim particularly for lepchas. You need to get a permit to enter this area. This a very pretty village in the lap of himalaya. Lepcha culture along with Kanchenjunga on the backdrop makes this place very special. The people in homestay will feed you with organic vegetables grown in their own garden. You can also taste some local wines like Millet wine Chang, rose wine, ginger wine etc. There is a monastery on the upper region of Dzongu. Also a natural hot spring is there where you can dip and relax for hours. Few years ago there was a landslide and a lake was formed. You can walk in the river bed if you visit in winter. This is a perfect place to escape the city life and retreat yourself with peace and serenity.
