I completed my 3200 km cycling trip across Tamilnadu on May 27, 2015. The trip spanned across all 32 districts of Tamilnadu and in this edition, it's all about Ooty.
Starting from Tirupur on the evening of May 10 was a troubled decision as I had to cycle along the highways till Mettupalyam, the gateway to Ooty. It's a state highway, which means two lane road, so the ride was a bit tough. After reaching Mettupalyam, I took up a cheap lodge with the help of my friend.
May 11, 2015Starting to Ooty at 6.00 am in the morning, I started climbing the hills and I never regret my decision to climb the hills with an MTB cycle.
The experience cannot be put out in just words. Out of 14 hairpin bends, 13th hairpin bend awed me. To add a point, I was the only cyclist that day to climb Ooty. I was able to refresh myself with fresh water from the waterfalls, bread and fresh carrots all the way.
My suggestion for you is to take Coonor, Ooty route while climbing and the ride down take the Thottabetta and Kothagiri route.
It took me 6.30 hours to climb the hill but downhill ride took me just 45 minutes and I have a video of the downhill ride.
Nilgiris or so called Blue hills. Stunning hills, surprising roads, Colonial buildings, Waterfalls at every bend, Freshly baked bread and local tribes. What more do you want on this trip?
Textile hub of South India. Major international brands have set up their manufacturing plants here. Very hot place, Dry areas but an escapade to Ooty from this spot is easy
