This refuge in the Sahyadri Hills is blissfully free of motor vehicles and affords nearly three dozen lookouts over the Western Ghats and the region's village-dotted plains. Saying no to wheels,Matheran stands tall at a height of about 2516 ft above sea level. Breathing amidst clouds, your mute expedition within the woods would only be interrupted by the hoofs of your ride a.k.a. rental horse!

One of the major sightseeing attractions of the destination, which provides views of beautiful surroundings. Located on a plateau, this point offer beautiful views of ancient monuments, which include forts of Vishalgad and Prabal. The point is frequented by nature lovers to sight sunset.
Along with this point, there is another popular site known as Lion’s head. Shape of the point resembles to that of the head of lion. From the point, tourists can sight beautiful waterfalls and lake gardens. The better views of a waterfall, Lake Gardens, Chowk point and Echo points are assured from this place. As this place is unspoiled, unexplored and offer calm environments, this is a gifted plain to have a stress free stroll.
On the top of the hill can be seen a single tree of Jambhul standing all by itself. This forms the great cynosure for the travelers. Also this is the place to have the great respite from the rat race of daily city life. The ladder that leads to this spot is called as Shiva Ji’s ladder. Descent is hilarious. The discovery of this path is credited to Hugh Poyntz Malet. The walk through the road known as Shivaji’s ladder, going down from the hill to the plain is really a great experience. It is a good train fro trekkers. It is believed that the path was discovered by a British collector to Thane, Hugh Poyntz Malet. The surroundings are cool and calm. One can get a relaxed feeling while spending the pleasure times here. From the one tree hill point one can get eye feasting views of scenic spots such as tent hill and Chowk village.
Mount Barry, a lofty precipice located at the distance of just 5 kilometers from Matheran is one of the most favorite tourist destinations around this dandy little hills station. Highly exalted amongst the vacationers for its enrapturing panoramic beauty, Mount Barry is extremely popular for the mesmerizing prospects it offers. From the top of the Mount Barry an aerial outlook of the downhill town Neral can be perceived while the adjoining Matheran Peak also looks staggering from here. The most noteworthy attraction of Mount Barry is the fantastic sight of the Matheran Toy Train slowly traversing through the verdurous woods and striding up the Matheran Hill beheld from here.
King George Point provides a view of the lake below and small waterfalls from the water overflowing from Charlotte lake. The far off mountain provides a bracket view. Next to the King George Point is the Edward Point which also provides view of small waterfalls and a bird’s eye view of Luisa Point. The access to these points in muddy and slippery in rainy season. The vantage point offers a panoramic view of nearby valleys and the placid Charlotte Lake. The best time to visit this viewpoint is during monsoons when the lake overflows and forms several small waterfalls in the region. The viewpoint is ideal for nature lovers as they can spend hours adoring the vistas and soaking in the tranquility.
