No destination has moved me as much as Kashmir has. Having travelled across the length and breadth of the country, I would prefer Kashmir over any destination today. It is called 'Heaven on Earth' for some reason and it stands by its name. No pictures and no captions can do justice to the beauty of Kashmir. It has been in the news for the longest time, mainly due to the violence and the constant battle of thoughts between two nations. Leaving that aside, if you head to Kashmir with an open mind, you will come back with one of the most unforgettable holidays of your life.
Kashmir is indeed Heaven on Earth. You look at on one side, you notice beautiful hills with snow capped peaks and on the other, there is the breathtaking view of the Dal Lake. Kashmir is a destination that offers the best of both worlds. You can spend hours staring at the myriad colors of the Dal Lake or hike up the snow capped peaks for a breathtaking view from the top.
Sonmarg and Gulmarg are two gems in the crown of Kashmir. Both are excellent destinations if you love snow. The route to both the destinations are filled with natural beauty and your journey will be unforgettable. Once you reach the destination, you need to walk up the hills to reach the top. The view from the top is worth the long walk.
I have not come across any place more beautiful than Pahalgaam. It is a must visit when in Kashmir. No amount of words will do justice to the beauty of this place. There are multiple hotel properties that offer luxury accommodation. It is a perfect honeymoon destination. Watch the changing colors of the sky from your room and marvel over the beauty of the country.
Betaab Valley is a favorite shooting location for Bollywood movies. The picture above is a minor peak into the natural beauty of this location. A visit to the valley is a must. You might want to skip the other valleys in Pahalgam but do not give Betaab Valley a miss. It is breathtaking and will transport you to a different world in no time.
A boat ride during the time of sunset at the Dal lake is a must! Every direction will offer you a different view and you might want to keep your camera by the side and simply soak in the natural beauty and peace at this place. I stayed on the houseboat for two nights, hence I woke up to a new view everyday. However, if you choose to stay in the city, you need to take a couple of boat rides on the lake. It is a mesmerizing sight to see young children headed to school in a boat every morning.
Only when you visit Kashmir, you will realize that there is no much to the destination than what you have heard or thought of. It is very safe to travel to Kashmir and the locals are some of the kindest people you will meet. They will be always be happy for a quick chat over a cup of kava. Try the local cuisine which consists of meat and bread while you already begin planning your second visit to Kashmir.
