Life is about taking a leap of faith, and sometimes it's about taking that leap from 13,500 feet with your legs dangling precariously from the edge of an aircraft.

For Indians, the glamorous playground of Dubai is probably the best place to attempt skydiving and what better way to experience Dubai’s flamboyant sights than from thousands of feet above it all?

But before you plummet through the atmosphere, here is everything you need to know about skydiving in Dubai.

Important things you need to know about skydiving in Dubai:

• Those who wish to sky dive in Dubai, must be above 18 years of age

• You must weigh below 100kg for safety reasons

• You're required to sign a liability waiver form that lists out the risks involved in the process of sky diving

• People with shoulder, neck and back problems are advised against sky diving

• Weather plays an important role in the success of a dive, so bad weather may lengthen the time taken for the entire activity. On a good day, you'll have to spare at least three hours for the entire diving experience

Types of jumps:

1. Tandem Jump

If you're skydiving for the first time, tandem jump is what you'll attempt. Offering an introduction to the sport, tandem jump allows you to experience the thrill of a free fall with the help of trained instructors. To start, you will be securely tied to the instructors through a harness. The instructor will guide you through the whole jump from exit through free fall, piloting the canopy and landing.

2. Static Line Jump

If you want your first skydiving experience to be a solo jump, you can consider the Static Line Jump. In this type of jump, the skydiver will experience a very short free fall before the opening of the main parachute is initiated. As the diver jumps out of the plane, the deployment of the main canopy is initiated by a “static line” attached to the aircraft. One full day of technical as well as ground-training is required to attempt your first static line jump.

3. Accelerated Free Fall

Most people call the accelerated free fall (AFF) the real deal. The training for AFF is extensive, but you will experience a 50-second free-fall on your first jump!

In AFF, two instructors work with each diver to teach them the accelerated free fall method. One of the instructors will hold onto the diver until she/he successfully deploys her/his own parachute and then release and deploy.

Once the diver opens the parachute, another instructor on the ground assists the diver via verbal guidance through a radio mounted on the diver's helmet.
