Gateway of India

Alibaugh is a small seashore town in Raigad District of the Indian state of Maharashtra.Close to Mumbai that is the reason it is a hot spot for Mumbaikars for short weekend breaks. You can reach Alibaugh either through road or water we prefer the waterway as it is short, less time consuming and offcourse no traffic and cheap as well. You can take a ferry from Gateway of India which are available from sunrise till sunset depending on the weather conditions. The ferry takes you to Mandwa Jetty from there you need more 30-40 mins to reach alibaugh, the ferry operators provide bus services from Mandwa to Alibaugh which is usually included in the ferry cost.

Beaches in Alibaugh are Alibaugh beach, Varsoli Beach, Nagaon Beach, Akshi Beach and Kashid Beach. We stayed near Varsoli beach at a hotel called Riturajj Inn which is a home away from home.Beaches in Alibaugh cannot be compared to the ones in Goa but ya if you have less time and tight budget this is preferrable. If you are in Alibaugh you can also experience a bit of Maharashtrain culture, taste some yummy sea food and booze offcourse.

Varsoli beach is an isolated beach as compared to the other beach we visited Nagaon Beach. Also you can enjoy water sports here as well..The raod which leads to Varsoli beach is calm and quite you can even hear your footsteps while you are walking and also different birds chirping around. There are also many small cottages available on the way to this beach you can explore them in term of cost and comfortness. We had very cute guide (A dog) while we were heading towards the beach early in the morning, it was very smart knew where we were heading to.We didnt had to ask anyone about the way towards the beach while we where with this smarty.

Nagaon beach is a bit crowded and about 8 km from Alibaugh town the rickshaw wala would charge you around 200rs one way or else you can opt for a tuk-tuk which drops you to shivaji Putla and charges you around 20 bugs per head from there you can hire another rickshaw which would cost you just 30rs.Here you can enjoy watersports, Horse cart ride, camel ride.

We didnt visit the other beaches, but had visited Kashid Beach 2yrs back which is a white sand beach.
