Day 1

Kanpur:

1. Thaggu ke Laddoo

Let's start with a history of these awesome laddu's. Mattha Pandey alias Ramavtar, owner of the shop told that there's no more to the name than just a publicity gimmick to attract attention. He said that when he landed in Kanpur Around 60 years back,he had attended a speech of Mahatma Gandhi, where he called sugar The White Poision his words put me in a dilemma, as being a follower of Gandhi, I wondered how I would prepare a laddu without sugar? he reveals. So I decided to be true to my custmers and thus named my preparation “ Thaggu Ke Laddu”. Will any one deal with a person, who calls himself a Thag? the Answer should be a big Nooooooooo....But that is not true in case of Kanpur's Famed “Thaggu Ke Laddu” where hundreds of people gather everyday satiate there tingling taste buds. This honest thag has gone on to place a hoarding which Reads....“Aisa Koi Saga Nahi, Jisko Humne Thaga Nahi ” (There is no relative remaning whom i have not cheated). This Special Laddoo is a specialty of Thaggu Ke Laddoo and comes laden with dry fruits like almonds, pistachios, rava(suji), pure khoya, Tragacanth gum(gond) and cardamom all blended to perfection in pure Desi ghee in this lip-smacking Indian dessert. Silky smooth and with the right amount of sugar and crunchy dry fruits, this is what we call pure sweet indulgence.

2. Badnam Kulfi: Again from the shop of Thaggu ke Laddu. Unlike most other Kulfis its whipped rather than just frozen and so it has a slightly Rabri like texture is mouth melting with right amount of sugar mixed with cardamom , pistachios and mangalore cashews. It is the fastest moving product with a standalone Brand Value with tagline "Mehmaan Ko Chakhana nahi , tik Jayega ".

3. Dahi Jalebi:

Different cultures will be found in every state of India. This combo is not only famous in Kanpur but in whole UP, Bihar and I believe, its also famous in Punjab, Haryana. In general, we mix sugar with curd to make it sweet and as we all know that Jalebi is very much sweetish in taste so when we take curd along with Jalebi then the sweetness of jalebi gets shared with curd so overall, it makes the combination little less sweetish so in such a way excessive sweetness and calories of Jalebi gets shared with curd. In this way, curd get some sweetness (without mixing sugar in it) from Jalebi and the excessive sweetness of jalebi doesn’t increase the calorie level :)
