Once destroyed by the Tsunami of 2004 in India, I call Andaman a 'survivor'. When I went their on my trip, I stayed at Port Blair which was in a pretty good condition. The driver showed us many areas which were destroyed by the tsunami but now, they have been renovated. Port Blair wasn't much affected by the Tsunami though but he said that the Nicobar Island is completely ruined except for some areas. So, the tourist now come here to travel in Andaman only.
Andaman is a group of islands located at the juncture of Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea . Andaman island has always been an interesting tourist spot because of its past. Famously known as 'Kaala Paani' because of it's Cellular Jail where several freedom fighters were imprisoned by the British Colonisers, during the fight of Independence like Bhagat Singh and Veer Savarkar, Cellular jail attracts many travelers here and provides glimpses into the past. Apart from the Cellular Jail, there are many other places to visit here.
When you go to this place, prefer taking a guide who can tell you about the history of the jail. In there, you can have see how the freedom fighters were kept in the jail and their lives inside it. They were given the same pot to defecate and to eat. Veer Savarkar is the most famous personality who wrote about his life inside the jail. It has a museum also which showcases the statues of the jail inmates to show how they were chained with several chains and the statues showing their punishments they had to do. Also, the light and sound show tells you about the life of the inmates through the dialogues of jail inmates like Bhagat Singh.
To reach this island, tourists have to leave the island, go to another island and cross that and then, ship to another one which will be the Baratang Island. Baratang Island is famous for its journey towards it since the island between Port Blair and Baratang is the island of the 'Jarawa' tribe, where all the cars are parked at the entry and go together to cross it. It is the most adventurous part of the journey because the jarawas who are the adivasi indigenous people of the Andaman, one could see them roaming on the road, sometimes waving or sometimes carrying a wild pig for dinner and their tools, on their way. Drivers are already given a warning to not to stop the car as it could be dangerous. After crossing it, tourists take another ferry to finally go to the Baratang Island. Also, this needs a complete one day as you can't return on the same day from Baratang Island.
On the second day on Baratang Island, visit Mud Volcano which is quite famous among the tourist. Mud Volcano erupts mud, rocks and gas and the outflow is not called lava but mud flow.
The limestone are formed naturally. you have to travel too much to reach the caves. Carry your own torch lights as you won't be able to see anything without it inside the caves.
It's a beautiful island and a good diving spot. Don't carry the plastic bags. The bags are checked before you go there.
It's very near to Port Blair which you can reach through a ferry. It's a beautiful place. One could see many historical things here.
