Yes it is Feasible to visit kanatal in January and Yes it will take 5-6 hours average to visit. But in January there may be snowfal so bus service may terminate . So check this before leaving. Look Ankit, budget of any trip depends on the traveller. How the person want to travel? If you have any place in mind to visit in North East India then do some research about that place . Like what are the things you want to do over there and for how long you want to travel. Choose for public transport whenever and wherever possible. You can do couch surfing or go for Hostels to stay. Eat at local spots .This will help you save more in your pocket , also you will have the best food of that place. You can do hitchhiking too .

You can try this place called Lonar, it has a beautiful looking lake formed by a meteor hit. Dahanu is another unexplored wonder. For trekking, there is Kalsubai trek. sunrise is a must. Malshej ghat trek. Kaas plateau another wonderland in Maharashtra also knows as maharastra's valley of flowers. the list is endless, it just depends on how far you're willing to go.
