Day 1

The morning saw ourselves getting ready for the main attraction of Jaisalmer- The Golden Fort.

It forms an integral part of the City. As nearly, 1/4th of the old city's population still resides inside the Fort.
Popularly known as the ' Sonar Kella' or the Golden Fortress, it is the second oldest Fort in Rajasthan.

It was built by the Bhati Rajputs in 1156 A.D. and was constructed by the yellow sandstone, oozing the golden aura. The iconic filmmaker Satyajit Ray wrote a detective novel, Sonar Kella, based on the Fort and later filmed it there in 1974. The film became a classic and a huge number of tourists from Bengal & across the Globe turned out to experience for themselves the world that Ray portrayed in the movie.

The Fort has 4 massive entrances namely - Ganesh, Akshay, Suraj and Hawa pol.
The points of interest include:
1. The Raj Mahal Palace
2. The Jain Temples
3. The Laxminarayan Temple
4. Merchant Havelis
5. The Historical lanes portraying the facets of Rajputana cultures.

Last but not the least, the Fort has numerous eateries including  Italian, French and Indian cuisines.

So, located at a distance of 750 km from Delhi, this is a perfect place to plunge into the history and taste a lifetime experience.
