Kashmir has always fascinated me though I never been there before. It’s a wonderful land of natural beauty and cultural richness. I have nurtured this dream to visit Kashmir since I heard this famous saying that, "agar dharti pe kahin jannat hai to wo Kashmir hai." Fortunately, I got three weeks winter vacation and it didn't take much time to decide that I should pack my bag, pick my bicycle and leave. And I finally did. 23-12-2018 was also the first anniversary of my bicycle and I celebrated it this way. I left from my hostel in PU and by the evening I reached Una where I spent the night in a gurudwara. Though Kashmir was my destination for this trip but there were some places I had wanted to visit and explore, so I had planned this trip in such a way that I could see those places also. Those places were McLeodganj and camping at the Triund top for a night, Chamba, Khajjiar and Dalhousie. And I did all this on the way, visited and explored all these places. I finally reached Srinagar on 3rd January, the 12th day of my journey, and it felt like a long long way since I had started from Chandigarh. It was 12 days, 860 kms full of wonderful and adventurous memories and I was so excited to be in the 'paradise.' The very next morning I took my bicycle and left to explore Srinagar and a part of Kashmir also, the weather was cold and cloudy as it was about to snow soon. After having breakfast and tea at the Dal gate I started pedaling towards University of Kashmir through the streets where there were stall and shops of almost everything, people were going on work, some were on their way to University . After roaming in and around the University I went to Dal lake , the wonderful weather around the calm Dal lake and the soothing sound of Azaan resounding in the atmosphere, I felt glad to be there and I was excited, I started cycling around the Dal and soon I reached at the Mughal Gardens and thats where I spent the rest of my day as it started snowing at around 1 pm and it didnt stop till late in the night but I was enjoying everything. I took a ticket to enter the Gardens and when it started snowing I came out and outside it were 4-5 stalls of tea, chat, etc and I just sat with them around the small bonfire under a canopy and we started talking about many things and the day passed in a blink and it was around five in the evening when because of snowfall it was already getting dark that one of them suggested me to leave as I was around 15 kms from my guesthouse so they suggested me a shorter way which was to complete the circle around the lake and I started at around six after waiting for the snow to stop but it didnt, so in the midst of snowfall I cycled around the Dal and reached my place after 7 pm. The next morning the entire Srinagar was covered under the fresh white snow like a beautiful bride in her wedding dress. I fell in love with Kashmir, then and there. So when I returned after a 4-5 days stay, a part of me had stayed in Kashmir and I brought Kashmir with me in my heart. I would love to and definitely visit this paradise again and again in my life. Thank you and love you Kashmir.
