The discovery of the cave

The cave was initially discovered in 1860, at the time there was evidence to say that the native people used the cave mouths as shelters for when they would go hunting.

The Indian merchant

K. Thamboosamy Pillai was an influential merchant from Indian who sent his close associates to Kuala Lumpur to look for the ideal spot to build a temple for the Hindu god Sri Murugan.

Thaipusam celebration

On this day devotees celebrate the day that Lord Murugan received his divine Vel from the goddess Parvati. Since 1982, more than a million people gather at the cave temple for this festival.

The largest Murugan Statue

In 2006, January, the largest statue of Lord Murugan was introduced to the temple standing at a height of 42. 7 metres high.

Visit the temple

It would be better to visit the temple as early as possible to avoid crowds and then explore the nature withing the caves too. Afterwards, head to one of the restaurants in Bukit Bintang for lunch and a much-needed break.
