Whenever I think of Mussoorie, I imagine the beautiful valleys, quaint Himalayan mountains and natural beauty. When I think of places to stay Rokeby Manor is among the first names to pop up in my mind. Travelling during a pandemic has its risks, although at Rokeby Manor, there was no one ounce of fear or hesitation. It was a home away from home.
Rokeby Manor
From the staff always wearing their marks and ensuring safety measures, to there being instruction cards placed on every wall. Not only were there automatic sanitisation machines available constantly, the rooms were fully equipped with disposable masks, sanitizers, and safety precautions we could take. Rokeby Manor is situated at a special hill station called Landour which is way beyond Mussoorie. In Landour it’s not only the town that’s beautiful, but it’s also their people.
While travelling from the Dehradun airport to breathtaking Rokeby Manor, the driver himself ensured that the car was fully sanitised and provided us with new disposable masks along with sanitiser bottles. Being cautious the driver himself opened and closed the car doors to ensure minimal touch with any surface and a very safe ride to the Manor.
This level of care makes one feel so welcome and cared for. This made the trip to the hotel very relaxing and calming. Being a green zone, I did not have to worry much about being in Mussoorie. There were also tissues and wet wipes at your disposal to ensure safety and maintain the highest level of precaution.
Putting up at Rokeby Manor was like being at home. The staff was always kind and cautious no matter which part of the hotel they were in. Emily's, a restaurant located within Rokeby Manor steals every persons breath away. A grand view of the Himalayas lies in the wait for views from the manor.
To ensure that the same menu cards are not touched by everyone coming in and out, they had a special place where the menu was displayed, allowing everyone to have a glance and place their order. It was also placed in the centre of the restaurant ensuring that it was accessible to all. Surround it were safety measures such as instructions on how to keep ones hands clean, the accurate way of wearing a mask, and many other suggestions to have a lovely visit at the restaurant. This itself felt like a new experience and made my experience at Emily’s unforgettable and unique. Throughout the meal the serving staff always wore a mask, over which they had a face shield too. And to add another level of safety, they also wore gloves at all times. The head chef too also ensured that all the raw materials went through the appropriate cleaning procedure specifically designed during COVID-19 to ensure that the restaurant was serving food to the highest level of hygiene.
At Emily’s the management ensures that while the customers are safe, so is the serving staff. Keeping this in mind, the restaurant management cautiously places small brown bags for the disposal of used tissues to ensure that germs and bacteria do not spread from anyone to their valued staff. Noticing this made me also feel safe as it reflects the deep thought that the restaurant managers have put into ensuring each persons safety.
While the rooms had important guidelines and safety hygiene, the very reception of at the heart of the Manor also provided with fresh masks and sanitisers. Seeing the hotel staff so concerned about everyone’s safety made me want to take more care of myself and ensure that I was always using the sensor sensitive sanitisers at the very entrance of Rokeby Manor. All safety measures were taken care of so I could really enjoy my stay.
Staying at Rokeby has been a delight. I also enjoyed bathing in their jacuzzi, which was situated right at the top of the hotel. The stunning view of Dehradun city was breathtaking from the peak. Little had i imagined that even during lockdown, I would be able to enjoy a staycation in Mussoorie.
Whenever, I think of Mussoorie I can't help but think of Rokeby Manor and my next trip there. Rokeby Manor, I will be there soon again.
