Lake Lucerne, Switzerland

The Swiss can certainly boast of this large reservoir surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. This lake has been called the heart of Switzerland and it is surrounded by four cantons: Lucerne, Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. World famous resorts and hotels surround this pristine lake. One can experience colonial architecture by visiting the famous Kappelbrucke Bridge and indulging in thriving activities on either side of the bank. A number of cruises and boat rides make this lake a favourite amongst tourists.

Loch Ness, Scotland

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands. No holiday to Scotland can be complete without a visit to Loch Ness. Here one can sit back and enjoy the landscape, explore the history of the area, visit the charming towns and villages like Fort Augustus, Foyers, Cannich, and Fort Williams, or just relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Loch Ness is the largest lake in Scotland by volume. The Loch Ness Monster is just one of the many myths and legends to be discovered in this particularly beautiful part of Scotland.

Lake Geneva, Switzerland

Lake Geneva is a crescent-shaped glacial lake, known in French as Lac Léman, is one of the largest lakes in Western Europe. It lies on the course of the Rhone River. The main attractions of this region are the cities and towns surrounding the lake such as Vevey, Geneva and Montreux. One ideal place to stay would be in Montreux overlooking the famous historical attraction Castle Chillion, right on the bank of this lake. Tourists also make it a point to see Jet d’ Eau in Geneva City, the large fountain reaching an altitude of 459 feet. Discerning traveller can find accommodation in the numerous plush hotels located on either side of Lake Geneva. European headquarters of the United Nations is also located by this lake.

Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como is Italy's most popular lake and also deepest. Lake Como is shaped like an inverted Y giving it a long perimeter. The lake is surrounded by mountains and hills and lined with beautiful villas and resorts. Lake Como is a popular weekend destination for people from Milan and July and August are the most crowded months. Spring and Fall are the best times to visit as it is less crowded and the weather is usually pleasant. Bellagio, known as the pearl of the lake, is in a beautiful setting where the three branches of Lake Como come together. It's easy to get to by ferry or bus from other cities on the lake. A number of campsites and interesting cruises along the lake make it an idyllic holiday destination.

Hallstatt Lake, Austria

Hallstatt lake is one of the most picturesque lakes of the world with shimmering reflections of the towering mountains and pastel houses on to the glassy waters of this lake.Located between Salzburg and Graz, in the Salzkammergut Lake District of Austria. Hallstatt is a little town with breathtaking views. This is one of the most stunning places in the world. There are many things to do in Hallstatt such as boating, hiking, surfing, visiting the salt mines and the ice caves. Hallstatt is essentially car-free and it is easy to walk from one end of the town to the other in about a half hour.
